I was completely fine with our play calling last week. If we score instead of kicking those chip shot field goals this thread isn't here.

playing smash-mouth defense, teams were always scared of our defense when they came into death valley, now we're soft, would you be scared?

I think we are getting to it now. You are right that the defense is not as intimidating as it has been, and yes it is disappointing. However, this has nothing to do with playcalling. JJ tried at least 8 passes that were 20 yards or more (see the link on page 1 that I mentioned before-- look for Fat Man's 2 posts on the 2nd page of that thread). And the ball was well spread out, from Lafell to Toliver, to RJ Jackson, to KW, CS and Murphy, and Shepard. Playcalling wasn't predicable this past game.

Defense was good-- it was way better than game 1, but not as stifling as in years past. I think it will continue to improve over the course of the year. I think this is your true beef and not playcalling.

Really because if it wasn't for that, RJ Jackson doesn't see the field

I would think the more we run 4 and 5 receiver sets, the better we will get at it.

i understand shepard fumbled, but if you seen the athletism i seen, would you not want him in there most of the plays? also keiland williams? why is he only getting 10 carries?

Watch some clips of the defense during Tennessee's glory years(97-02)...Do you know who the defensive coordinator is?

I cannot stress enough that we are only 2 games into the season and these guys are still learning a totally new scheme...things like this take time

I am kinda liking what our O-coordinator is doing...

We are pretty much sampling all of the products of our offense, and I think we will start to see more of a focused offensive game plan as the season progresses. I think next week will be a good week to start to put a game plan in effect... I like the offensive idea so far, its smart.

It doesn't matter where you watch a game. What matters is do you know what you're looking for. I saw a team that used multiple formations and personnel to create mismatches. We took our shots down the field and missed. Keiland did a fantastic job on the zone runs from the gun getting vertical. Trindon made some plays, Shep made a few, Dickson had a couple, and Jefferson made some with his feet and arm.

Plain and simple, he can't throw to save his life and there are too many more experienced players at WR and RB to where he will see consistent playing time this year.

For now, gadget plays are his best option as a freshman. He doesnt have to learn the entire playbook and will have experience under his belt when Jefferson leaves.

Actually I find Chavis blitzing a whole lot more than Pelini did.

Problem is he is getting burned on those blitzes sometimes, leading to big gains

maybe he can't, youve never seen him in actual play tho, but tell me he can't be an asset to our team with his athletic ability
