If Micah was as good as you think he is you could put him in any farm system.

You could also put any number of crappier catchers in the Angels farm system and they would also be turned in forces behind the plate.

You know less about pro baseball than you do college baseball and that's sad.

Micah is one if the top catchers in college baseball I don't see your point.

My point is that last season you could make the argument that Micah was one of the beat leaders in the country, but not one of the best catchers. This year will be a different story. A catcher who doesn't call his own games can't be called one of the best catchers in the country

His point is that a guy who isn't able to see the talent / effectiveness of Ott and Coleman doesn't really have a basis for expressing any opinion.

There are 3 or 4 that potentially can step up to that level, it's just a matter of going from "good" to "great".
That is the issue that will determine how far we go in the post-season...

I am still waiting for this self-proclaimed "expert" to tell us what "intangibles" Daniel Bradshaw is missing. All he has cited so far is a fastball under 90 mph, although many successful pitchers throw in his range. Intangibles tend to be traits like guts, courage, leadership, determination, and the like. I'd like to know what he is missing and what such an assertion is based upon...other than "I watched him pitch." Just the facts....

Okay I haven't seen him exert any leadersip presence on the mound at all in fact when things didn't go his way he collapsed. His fastball is mediocre, his off speed is mediocre, and lastly his attitude is mediocre. He doesn't have any of the tools a championship pitcher needs to internalize.

Also I am basing all of this game experience since I am not there monitoring everything he does at practice. If I get another chance to talk to Manieri before Friday I will ask about his attitude and work ethic.

Seems no one remembers DJ and Schimpf....these two carried the team a good bit last year. J Mitchell also made it hard on people with his on base percentage.
This team may be as good as last years, but it is far from a given.
Nola has to improve his average by 60 points!
You lost 3 hitters in your top 5 batters...
I personally believe we will be fine, but it will take 20-25 games to figure out who needs to be where.....as it usually does.

Pitching will be fine

Couldn't agree more about DJ, JM and RS. Those guys CARRIED that team. DJ was freakin "clutch" every game. His inside out swing reminded me a lot of Derek Jeter. I believe he will end up being that type of hitter, but won't be close defensively. He will be like a MIke Fontenot, but a better hitter in the pro's.

Please just admit to talking out of your arse to just stir up shite.

Bradshaw got the win in 3 out of his 4 starts last season. He also picked up a win in a relief appearance making him 4-0 through the regular season. Not enough for you? How about that the start he made against Georgia in the tourney IN A MUST WIN GAME. 7ip 0 runs 3 hits. Still not enough? How about the 5 shutout innings he pitched in the CWS 3 of which were against Texas.

The only reason you're bitching about Ott not being a dominating pitcher and Bradshaw not having "intangibles" is because they don't throw mid to upper 90's. Either that or you really are the biggest idiot on these boards

We just won a CWS after having to replace EVERY weekend starter from the previous team that made it to the CWS. So we moved Coleman from the closer spot to starter...which we can do with OTT if need be i guess. But i dont understand why the Pitching staff is a concern. It will be better IMO.

The concern should be with infield depth and replacing the dependable bats of DJ and Ryan. But LSU will make it to the CWS and have a legit shot at winning it...I have no doubt.

To the OP; how should we view Ott's season last year? If he hasn't proven himself dominant, has he proven himself anything other than dominant?

That is not the only reason why. I have said it a thousand times Bradshaw should be a spot pitcher with his lack of velocity and mediocre off speed stuff however he isn't. Ott tries to overpower people with his decent fastball too much as well. He will be exposed this season you can bank on it. The only thing Bradshaw is good for IMO is middle to long relief.

That was exactly what his role was or the majority of last year.

Ott has added a changeup to go with his nasty slider. I think he will be even better. Pitchers adjust too you know...not just batters. And Pitchers can improve from their freshman to soph. years also...

I see no reason Ott and Ross cant be really good this year...
