I disagree that Mr. Jefferson will necessarily produce a better passing game. He has yet to do so. Boy, talk about controversy if he comes back...unless of course Mr. Lee is uninspiring.

Well, based on JJ's passing abilities of the prior season, it's kind of a joke to suddenly think he is going to start lighting up defenses with his arm. Yes, JJ would provide us with another runner on the field, but appears our RB's this year are more than capable of picking up the slack. Of course, another benefit of having both JJ & JL is that other teams have to prepare for both QB's. But one thing to remember, it is just the first game of the season, don't think that our offense is not going to install more plays in the next few weeks. I also think the loss of Shep hurts, he is a distraction to a defense, much as Bush was for the Saints.

Can't say I agree with the article's basic premise. I think having JJ on the roster can help, but I think we can win if Lee plays at or near his best in most games.

On a side note, classy comments from the fans. JJ must love being from Louisiana.

Couldn't agree more. Playing devils advocate... Maybe, just maybe the writer thinks at some point LSU offense will be sputtering and a QB with legs might be a little benefit. Even the JJ haters have to admit JJ did make an occasional play running when nothing else was working... not to mention just by having JJ on the roster other teams will have to gameplan a little for a mobile QB.

We may not need JJs legs this season. Then again we might.

Yes our RBs are capable. It's not the planned runs that we need JJ for... it's the unplanned runs. When the passing is sputtering and the D's are stacking the box and nothing is working. And when the O-line breaks down. Tuck and run.

I don't want to add fuel to the fire... but I would have no problems throwing Randall in if JJ is not on the team and our passing game with JL/ZM is sputtering

ETA: We all know at some point this season our passing game will not be working at all. It would be nice if we had a JJ or another mobile "QB" that can pick up an occasional first down to give our D a breather.

First of all Finney gives his opinion and backs it up with the reasons he feels that way. He was not attacking Lee. I see his point. Personally if Miles wants a running QB how come he continuously recruits pocket QBs? That's what I would ask Finney. There are plenty of dual threat athletes out there. Also we won 11 games with a 2 QB system (and winning despite QB play) last year not just playing JJ. If he thinks JJ won 11 last year he better replay the tapes of last season. I don't have a problem with playing JJ and Lee in a 2 QB system since both are inconsistent and pretty average QBs.

Let me start by saying I do not think Lee is perfect, and I think JJ is probably a nice kid. That being said...what we do not need is the scared lost sulking JJ that we have seen his whole career. He plays scared and indecisive. Is it possible that he is better now? Yes, but I am not confident that this is the JJ we will get.

Like I said yesterday, you can't take anything from that game. Their DL is undersized so if we didn't run for 200 I would have been concerned. In a perfect world with the WRs true unforgivable drops Lee would be sitting at around 140-150.

Take into consideration that this was a pac 10 D with a true freshman guarding a junior receiver, a top five national cover corner out, and possibly the next best player, Guidon, hobbled most of the night with injuries, small arse DL that got pushed back all night etc...

True test for O & D is Miss St.

LSU could use JJ for situational play and depth, but LSU definitely does not need JJ. That is bullshite if I ever saw bullshite. What a clown. He has to be either stupid or he has some agenda to say that crap.

All these rantards bashing Peter Finney, a New Orleans legend.

Anyway, I disagree w/ him in that we "need" him, but we could very easily "probably need him".

We matched up so well vs Oregon. We will match up less well w/ SEC teams.

OLine depth scares me and if we start taking hits there our run game could severely suffer, not to mention pass blocking.

We shall see, but to disrespect Peter Finney like that, a guy who has written several books and forgot 10x's as much about sports as you'll ever know is priceless! Thanks for the laugh.

Finney is bad when it comes to talking about current sports

if he is writing an editorial or if he is talking about 1958 Tigers, he has some creditbility. Otherwise he has none.

I disagree with PF on this one

no need for all the ripping, someday you might live long enough to be old and if any of you do 1/100th of the things that man has done for sports in NOLA and LA you would shut your fricking mouth

again, I don't think he's right on this one but we shall see

and I don't think we see JJ in a LSU uniform ever again,we'll see on that too

Finney is 100% spot on.

LSU's national title chances lie with a grand jury. This team is unbeatable with #9 at the helm.

Lee and Beckham did great jobs holding down the fort, but to win it all, we need our starters back.
