Perkins should drop just a little weight and become another weapon on offense. Get him in space. He could also be a valuable blocker on the outside too. He can out muscle a DB. Then occasionally throw him in special blitz packages.

What is the common denominator here? Do you really think that two completely different staffs just refuse to have Perkins just “do what he’s good at?” Or is it more likely he’s a “tweener” who is relatively easy to scheme around except on obvious passing situations?
Both DCs desperately wanted him to be a three down game wrecker. But the reality is his skill set is probably best at being a situational pass rusher. However, if that was how they played him the Rant would be screaming about him not being on the field for enough first and second downs.
He’s not big enough to be an every down ILB and not quick/instinctive enough to be a great safety. His loss is NOT insignificant. Particularly on third and long. But it’s probably not as significant as some of the fans and media are going to think.
We have 17 games of data now since the start of last season. That data suggests he’s not had a “game wrecking” type of impact since his famous performance vs Arkansas.
It would be somewhat akin to melting down over losing Justin Vincent in 2005 because we couldn’t forget his amazing performances at the end of 2003

You didn’t honestly think this team had a snowballs chance in Hades to make the playoffs ??

I feel like saying stuff like this is some sort of coping mechanism for people who are way too invested in this and don’t want people to know how crushed they are that their team fell short. Like it’s a reflection on you personally, so you do what you can to downplay and show everyone that you “knew they weren’t gonna make it this year”.
Are we as good as we hoped? Probably not. There are plenty of areas of concern. But this team is sitting at #14 with our 2 toughest games at home.
Speaking in such absolutes 4 weeks into the season where teams still have plenty of room to improve, is just disingenuous.
