The contradictions between this upcoming press conference compared to the last one ought to be interesting. Alleva's going to have to find a clever way to backtrack off all his "you've to pay to get a winner" stuff from a few weeks ago.

am surprised as to the article indicating that Torina is a 'safe' hire...what the hell is that??

My guess would be Yvette still wants her hand in the cookie jar.

Murphy - change of heart
Habetz - an asisstant. Sources said LSU was ready to hire Habetz on the spot, but she became afraid
Gumpf - Gumpf then backed out of the interview and chose to stay in South Bend.

Something very fishy going on with this hire. Murphy has an O shite moment and backs out. Habetz knows whats up too and declines to even interview. Notre Dame coach reportedly very excited about interview. Plane tickets in hand for interview then suddenly backs out of interview???

This could all be the start of the decline of Joe Alleva at LSU...

My guess is like most things you post, you have absolutely no clue but still want to play the blame game.

Torina just finished her fourth year with the FIU program, posting a 31-27 overall record this year after a 1-2 mark in the Sunbelt Conference Tournament. However, the four-time letter winning pitcher with the Florida Lady Gators during the late 1990s has accomplished great things at a program severely lacking of winning history and resources.

Last season, Torina led the Lady Panthers to just their second ever NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and their first ever victory in the NCAA Tournament. FIU also defeated a Top 5 opponent for the first time ever, topping No. 4 Florida 8-3. That Lady Gator squad would go on to reach the Women's College World Series.

From here it looks like she built a program from scratch. Not bad, as she has some building to do here.

LSU atm, is no better than the fourth-best softball program in the SEC.

don't think there's anything 'fishy' about coaching search. Packing up ship and moving elswhere is major decision for any individual to make regardless of profession. I truly believe PM got cold feet, AH believed she wasn't ready. It seems like she woulda already bolted if she thought she was HC material.. How many AC remain at one program for 13 years w/o testing the waters. Maybe she truly loves her life in Tuscaloosa nd life as an AC. I'm gonna reserve judgement on this hire until she has a few years under her belt. Alleva hasn't given me any reason not to trust him regardless of some spin posters portray him with

No matter how you try to spin it, Torina is an underwhelming hire when compared to Murphy. That's not to say she won't turn out to be a good coach, but she's nothing to get overly excited about right now.

What pisses me off the most is that when Murphy backed out, he cost LSU a shot at 2 other sitting head coaches who apparently were higher on Alleva's list than Torina (Lawson and Gumpf). By all reports, Lawson would've accepted the job if offered.

Certainly Alleva will not start off the press conference by saying "We got the coach we wanted all along"...

Dead God people calm down! Was Saban an exciting hire? Miles? Mainieri? How about Urban Meyer before he got the Utah Job?

These young coaches have to get their chance at some point. Give it time before passing judgment. She may be a steal!

She may be but you sure can't look to her resume for much to support that assertion.

It's a shockingly underwhelming hire!

On paper it looks like a "throw in the towell" hire. Alleva must have read the Rant and agreed, "fuk it. It's only women's softball.".

The exception isn't necessarily the rule. Torina could be Gene Chizik or just as easily be Ron Zook.

Totally agree. All I'm saying is give her a chance and give Alleva the benefit

She'll get 2-3 years to make an impact in the S.E.C. or L.S.U. will be doing this all over again.

Looking at their roster, most of team will be back next season, so assistant coaches will be important too, to see if we can improve the hitting, which was a major sore spot this year.

Any idea if she will keep Yvette's assistant coaches or if she will clean house?

One of her assistants at FIU has been with her since she was hired there........If she comes I doubt any asst coach is retained.

She is a pitching coach.....

I think she needs to get a top notch hitting coach...

Hobbs worked with infield and we had a very good one...she coached first also....

They had me excited about the future then the bottom fell out. Can't help but think that nothing but bad will happen to the bama dude who pulled out. Anyway, Torina is a Tiger now and I will be pulling for her to be successful.

Really? Why? Best pitching staff her first year as coach. Back at the CWS. Give a reason why? This woman he hired is at a small school and competed against Britni. Britni is at a larger school and she LOVES LSU!

Agree Bandits and sure Joe had plenty of input in helping make this selection. Our AD is no fool. Nice bonuses are likely attached along with salary increases for success. Also bet she is viewed as a {{{diamond in the rough}}} with tons of potential. Can't wait to see her in action.

She is supposed to coach pitching but needs vast improvement on hitting for immediate success.
