Penalty Breakdown v USC

Ok I’m mad, you’re mad, we all get it. WE should have won versus USC last night. Penalties killed us. I’m going to go over all penalties by LSU and rate them from a “My Bad” to “You getting ducked up in the locker room”. Here we go!
1st Penalty
Our first penalty of the night was on the first drive of the game. It as 2nd down and 2 and DJ Chester jumped early. I chalked this up to season starting butterflies and we lost 5 yards.
Rating: My Bad
2nd Penalty
The second penalty of the night was a weird one. This one occurred on the second offensive series for USC. A great deal of us are use to the defensive acting up on that line of scrimmage to get the offense to jump early. Last night the announcers talked about a new rule change were you can’t line shift if you are within a certain distance of the line of scrimmage. I can’t find the actually language of the rule at this time. We lost another five yards to that. I think even Coach Kelly was confused on that call.
Rating: My Bad
3rd Penalty
The third penalty was a delay of game and is one you see at every game this year that has that stadium effect. Nussmeier was trying to hear his headset and could get the call out in time. This will be a consistent problem throughout the year for all teams. Unlike the NFL, the stadium noise is a different from the NFL, and if you have ever been to Death Valley or Kyle Field for example, you know this. We lost 5 yards.
Rating: COACH I CANT HEAR YOU!
4th Penalty
The fourth penalty was the first major penalty of the night. After Kyren Lacy caught a beautiful pass for a touchdown, he decided to take the celebration too far and talked smack to the USC players. This penalty was enforced on the kickoff, and as much of a boot that Aeron Burrell has (69 yard kick), USC was able to return it 46 yards and set themselves up for a field goal. This penalty ultimately cost LSU 3 points.
Rating: DUCK HIM UP IN THE LOCKER ROOM!
5TH Penalty
In the third quarter, Will Campbell jumped early on the offensive line. This was a loss of 5 yards. All those butterflies should have been out of you by now.
Rating: Slap that boy, coach.
6th Penalty
In the 4th quarter, Major Burns loses his god damn mind and takes his helmet off on the field. He is a veteran player and knows better than to do this dumb shite. We lost 15 yards and it killed this drive fast.
Rating: DUCK HIM UP IN THE LOCKER ROOM!
7TH Penalty (declined)
I think there was an offsides, correct me in the comments, and we gave USC a free play that resulted in a touchdown.
Rating: You need a have a serious conversation with the defense.
7th Penalty
Jardin Gilbert was hit with a targeting call and got ejected from the game. I watched this over and over, I don’t believe this was targeting due to the shoulder hitting first and then the helmet. That kind stuff happens and we have to live with the bad calls. Earlier in the night, there was a clear targeting play that a USC player did and they decided it wasn’t targeting. The bad is this resulted in USC getting capitalizing the scoring position this penalty placed them in.
Rating: WTF REFS!
Total Rating: Coach Kelly, you better get control of the locker room.

Refs were absolutely terrible last night. It was obvious they favored the west coast team.

There was also an egregious push off by the USC WR on this play. The refs just weren’t paying attention to anything the guys in red were doing.

Thst first wilde catch should have been negated by that choke hold right in front of the ref

I thought the targeting call was correct. You know you can’t hit em high like that anymore. That was the least egregious of the personal fouls. The other 2 were undisciplined stupidity that ended up costing us points and field position

Gilbert’s crown of the helmet hit the other guys helmet. It was clearly targeting. It also helps that he won’t be available for the first half next week because that was the worst DB performance I’ve seen since Karnell Hatcher against Arkansas when he tackled his own teammate twice in the first half to give UA TDs.

Major Burns doesn’t know better than that. He’s genuinely a stupid arse mother fricker. And he’s a poor football player.
He’s a cancer that needs to gtfo of the program, barely better than Denver Harris.

I get what you are saying, but that also means that you can't even lean in to tackle. If you lean in, your body naturally points you head that direction. You can try it right now, lean forward, lean back, lean left, lean right. Your head goes that way. This means to lean in to tackle, he would have to unnaturally pull his head back. This is just my opinion on it.

These two things are incongruous with each other.
You don’t deserve to win when your players commit dumbass penalties. We were sloppy and uninspired. USC made the plays when it counted and LSU bailed them out with penalties when they didn’t.
It starts with Kelly. This is year three. It’s his program. We can no longer lean on what he inherited from Orgeron.
