That's where my quotes are from and he is definitely telling the media it was a hit and run.

In that situation it is really more of a run and hit. He calls it a lot with a 3-1 pitch. You have to trust your hitter. Pap is actually a good guy to do this for because he understands the strike zone probably better than anyone on the team and has decent pitch recognition. You start the runner and if it is a strike you swing and make if it is a ball you take. You stay out of the double play. I like the call.

No. It's either a green light 3-0 or a hit and run. It's a situation we always see in baseball and it's always a green light. That doesn't make it a hit and run at all.

The call you like is the one I did in the first part of this thread and for the same reasons. See my first response. But PM specifically says he doesn't want Pap to walk. So throw all of that out of the window.

I could buy the run and hit angle, but Mainieiri didn't play that type of small ball.

A run and hit would have the base runner steal second base and the hitter would swing only if it's a fastball for a strike.

Go show me the number of times a manager gets tossed in a tied game. Also that is not CPM's style. I never understand why people on this board want a coach to be what he isn't. If a coach isn't a fiery coach then when he does do it it seems forced and fake. When it comes to baseball I want my manager as calm as possible. There is a lot of decisions to be made throughout the course of a ballgame on every single pitch. Shouldn't get too high or low for any of them.

Lots of calm managers get tossed when they feel the moment warrants it. Some do it because the call is so egregious and they feel like they're standing up for their players. And the players often feel that way too. There's something to be said for that since baseball is such a mental game.
