I am not trying to be a half full fan...but the pocket collaspes very quickly for us and our QB's take far too many coverage sacks for a top team.

Do we need to run more screen passses ?

Thoughts.

I would like to see the O-line get healthy. We need Lonergan and Faulk at full speed.

The truth is that we are a very good team...but it has been a long season against some very strong teams and things to break down.

It is our last year for JJ and Lee and I would love for them to shine in the next few weeks, but they will need protection.

Stats aren't everything but LSU leads the SEC in fewest sacks allowed at 10 and fewest total yards in sacks against at 55 yards. Next closest is Bama at 14 sacks and 78 yards.

In contrast LSU is no. 2 in sacks by the defense, with 24, one behind UGA and one ahead of Bama.

Our OL is a bit overrated by the fans, but is still solid. It has plenty of room for improvement, and mostly on the inside at guard. T-Bob is a clear weakpoint and Blackwell is inconsistent at times.

That said, they've been successful this season at keeping the QB protected.

Realize that Lee has only been sacked 4 times this season in 10 games. JJ has been sacked 6 times in 6 games. There is a reason our OL has looked poorer in pass protection lately including playing a great Bama defense.

Out of how many attempts?

But, but, but....we need the added mobility he brings!

Most of those sacks are not on the O-line and many things contribute. Example when JJ took the safety, we had a one route pass play called you tell me what to do if the man is covered. You throw the damn ball away. He held it waiting to see if the reciever would get open. I have noticed this many times in our passing game it really isn't good. We run alot of go routes and very rarely do we run go routes combined with crosssing routes and underneath patterns.

T-Bob seems like a great guy but he does tend to wind up in the backfield more than most O-linemen.

How many INTs did Lee throw because he rushed it out of fear of being hit?

I wonder why we don't run more screen and crossing routes that can buy us some time and make the defense respect the pass ?

Most of them came in the last 2 games. We were doing real good until then.

Are you kidding me? For every negative thing you can say about this OL, 10 positives could be pointed out. You would have been better off with another JJ thread.

Review the couple of sacks given up against WK. Come back tell & us who is responisble since some of you seem to know all about evaluating Line play. On the same note, LSU is leading the league in fewest sacks allowed & we are the # 1 ranked team in the nation! Some people can not help themselves but to find a negative in everything. What a miserable life it must be.

Hmmmm.....I'm going to say 1 out of the huge number that he has thrown this year. How many did our starting QB throw last year? What was the excuse for those? Do interceptions thrown while rushing the throw count differently than those thrown for some other reason?

Come on, you are a better poster than that.

I'm just asking the question. I'm in favor of Lee starting but some guy was trying to run down JJ and I didn't think it was fair (since a couple of his sacks were him being caught trying to make a play with his legs). That being said, both of JJ's sacks last game were really poor decisions by him.
