I wish I had the ability to pull up still pictures of his release point from last year to this year. They showed this in one of the series earlier this year. His elbow and wrist has been slightly lower than last year which would explain him leaving the ball up a lot. He already has a 3/4 release as it is but he has to stay on top to be effective. I don't care how much movement you have on a fastball, if you leave an 86mph fastball up in the SEC it will get pounded.
eta: Minus a few scary moments last night, he seemed to show much better command than in his previous outings.

He was reacting to the batter calling time out, although he should have chunked it anyway.
The ump actually even put his hand up. I think he was trying to wave off the batter and tell him he couldn't have time, but still ... But yeah, Ott should have still thrown the ball.

Ott has to throw that pitch. It was insane that they overruled that call. I don't remember the ump budging at all.

He definitely should have thrown the pitch still. I've never seen that before.

Ott was fine
first two outa don't leave the infield, then a bouncers gets past Nola, then the double...only 1 hard hit ball
his command still wasn't great, but it was better...and I think closing it in essentially a save situations gives him a ton of confidence

An 84 MPH fastball with no movement
His fastball ALWAYS has movement...and is frequently well above 84.

You NEVER stop your pitch once you've gone into your motion with a runner on base. Matty got over big time on that one.
I did the exact same thing in a playoff game when I was in high school. I started to pitch and the guy had stepped out of the batter's box, thinking the umpire had granted him the timeout. He hadn't, but when I saw the guy out of the batter's box, it threw me off and I stopped mid-motion. One of the 2 balks I ever had. The other one, I blew a bubble with my bubble gum while I was in my windup and got a balk called for that!

Just messing bruh. The rant absolutely LOVES Al Bundy-esque Polk High stories.

The coolstory didn't have a happy ending like Al's stories. The pitcher for the other team pitched a no-hitter.

but shocked
How bout Vandy sending that guy in the 9th with 2 outs and trailing by 3?
They got away with it, but only by bout 1/2 second.
Putting the bat on the ball cures a lot of ills.

He looked better, still not 100%

Yeah, that was dumb since they needed 2 more runs after that to even tie the game.
