bama is beginning to take credit for everything they can, esp LSU stuff. i'm not saying the artist didn't graduate from bama because i have no idea but the impression that we wouldn't have a logo if it weren't for bama is what some bama fans want to portray. i swear bama fans are setting themselves up for a reality check in the future and no one is gonna hear their tears.

This was my favorite LSU logo, until the day I saw that auburn was also using it. Now this logo is dead to me.

So the Tiger-War Eagle-Plainsmen didn't even come up with their own Tiger, not surprising. The NCAA should force Auburn to select one mascot not related to any of their current three.

It's probably because of the WWI and WWII, logo's and cartoon characters had similarities to the armed forces.
I started following LSU in the 50's and the sailor hats were common then, I got the impression they came from the military involvement in university campuses during WWII with all of the training programs on universities, these sailor type hats were used during PT by the cadets.
prior to WWII the navy flat hat was much more common. The Dixie Cup hat really came into prominince during WWII.
The beanies we wore in ROTC freshman orientation in the 60's had bills and were not the sailor caps.

I've got a plastic set of tumblers (insulated) with a "patch" if you would of Sailor Mike in between the layers. LOVE them ... 20+ years old.
Yeah, 1 or 2 are a little warped from putting them in the dishwasher ... I learned my lesson!
