He is a good passer. He started poorly but played well late...not in the option though.

I think if any LSU quarterback would have a similar performance to what Darron Thomas had in the big game our fan base would be jumping all over him and talking about how much he sucked and how we need a new QB.

Well, muddafrick. We are doomed. A freshman with two days of exposure. I personally would be worried about a D letting that happen....but hell I will go with the flow. We quit.

I know you're being snarky but just FYI Lylerla checked in for Spring ball. He's going to be an immediate impact player for us from game 1.

That doesn't mean his performance was good in the big game. Oregon only scored 19 points. Just curious, how many of his 30 TD's came on short routes where the running back or receiver made a really good run after the catch? How many of his TD's came on long, high quality throws? I'm not trying to be a jackass. I really am curious.

Based on what i saw in the national championship last year, Darron Thomas is a very unimpressive passer. He couldn't hit his receivers and has to rely on his scrambling abilities to make plays. Maybe it was just a fluke in that one game, but that's what i saw. The Oregon offense seemed to rely completely on running plays and the short passes. There was no down field threat.

I don't really see how you could take that away from the NC performance.

Er... let me back up. I personally don't believe we've ever been able to see just how impressive a passer DT is or is not. The reality is that he spends most of his time throwing to wide open receivers because of the offense we run and the way CK calls plays. If you watch the full-season highlights on youtube from that madmike guy, you can see a few instances where he threaded the needle, and proves some of us wrong, but in general he has a pretty easy job.

Having said all of that, I don't think very highly of his scrambling abilities, and I don't think they got him much in the NC. He was reasonably successful throwing the ball in that game once he got a little warmed up, but I don't recall that having been the result of his scrambling.

So at least some of what I'm saying is correct then, right? He throws to wide open receivers on short routes and that doesn't necessarily mean he's a really good QB.

I try to stay out of these pissing contests, but the Ducks better get ready to be hit like they've never been hit before and the two weeks it will take for y'all to get back to normal after being hobbled.

The problem with that is when you play a good defense those windows are not wide open anymore and the quarterback has to thread the needle sometimes and he also has to throw downfield sometimes to loosen up the defense.

I am sure you do Dr. Smartass.

Kenjon would like a word with you: did you say hobbled?

I am so anxious to see him and LMJ 15 pounds heavier. It's time for the stiff arm, a la JJ.

Haha. By far some of the best stiff arms of all times.

They aren't all short, but yes I would agree with that mostly. His performances don't necessarily indicate that he's "really good" traditionally speaking - mechanics, accuracy, arm strength, whatever. (Even though I think he's pretty accurate and has a decent arm.) But he is a very good decision maker (NC game aside) and he does what he's asked to do quite well.

Win or lose, I promise you we will hit a wide open receiver against you at least a few times. Even stellar defenses bite on a well executed zone-read involving a bona fide Hesiman contender.

FYI, Clanton is getting reps with the ones at right guard, the vacant guard spot. This is what I expected - Clanton will usurp Golpashin.

The ones today are:

RT: Asper (325)
RG: Clanton (300)
C: Grasu (291)
LG: York (292)
LT: Weems (302)

Average: 302 interior: 294.3

I am only telling you this because after spring it looked like this:

RT: Asper (325)
RG: Golpashin (275)
C: Armstrong (260)
LG: York (286)
LT: Weems (292)

Average: 287.6 interior 3: 273.3

The biggest thing to come from day three is the inclusion of Ryan Clanton in the starting lineup. He has practiced at both guard spots and backup left tackle. He goes 300 pounds and will be a nice addition to that vacant right guard spot. Those attending practice say that he is the most versatile and athletic of our linemen. This was a JUCO kid that redshirted. I picked him to usurp Golspashin because the scuttlebutt was that he was ready last year to contribute. However, he was promised a redshirt season during his recruitment and the staff honored that request. He will be a nice addition to help contain that interior line of LSU.

Other item of note is that Terrence Mitchell will be a good CB to fill in for Harris. He has 4 picks through 3 days of practice. In an interview of Spencer Pasinger, our WIL from last year that graduated, we learned that T Mitch could've been in the cb rotation but had the luxury of redshirting (suffered a minor ankle injury too). T Mitch is a playmaker. Additionally, he goes 6'0" 189 and should help run support better than Harris.

Sorry for the bad news, but when LSU is put on the big stage we prevail and will be victorious. Enough said! Now have a nice day.
