Jayden Daniels with 4623 yards now has the ninth most career passing yards in LSU history, knocking Allen Risher off the top 10 (bittersweet for me since Risher was the QB when I was at LSU) and pushing Danny Etling down to 10th. Reasonable to assume that he passes Jefferson next week. Bold are marks he could reasonably pass. Italicized are possibilities but would take continually superb play. No way he catches JB or Hodson.

The list ahead of him now is as follows

1 Tommy Hodson 9,115

2 Joe Burrow 8,565

3 Jeff Wickersham 6,921

4 JaMarcus Russell 6,625

5 Jamie Howard 6,158

6 Herb Tyler 5,876

7 Zach Mettenberger 5,783

8 Jordan Jefferson 4,733

Tommy Hodson was here for 5 years (4 year starter).

Joe Burrow was here 2 years..and fell 550 yds (less than 2 average games for him) short of Tommy’s career yardage numbers.

That just puts an exclamation point on what a special talent Joe really was.

Indeed, add in he sat out most of the 4th quarter in 8 games.

No he wasn't

Two players are among the top 50 overall, while another two are among the top 10 at their position. Here’s a breakdown.

Tommy Hodson (1986) - No. 9 QB

Well to be fair. The reason he was sitting out is because he had shredded the defense the previous 3 quarters, so I don’t think that really would’ve changed his numbers.

Not sure why you'd use career yards as a metric for somebody who's only going to be here 2 years. It would be much more relevant to use yards per game or yards per season

I agree because we would not be throwing anymore but I'm just saying that in 8 qtrs he may pick up that difference.

He has the 5th best single season. If I had to speculate where he will end up He will have the second, third, or fourth best season and the 6th best season. Pushing one of Mett's seasons off the list and being the only QB besides JB with two seasons on the list.

Per game, it would likely be JB then either Daniels or Rohan but I ain't trying to figure that out

The problem with the career passing yards is that prior to 03 the bowl games didn’t count

Only Burrow, Jefferson, Mettenberger, and Russell’s bowl stats counted

That’s not correct.

I was at LSU at the time. Tommy was a true freshman in 1985 when he redshirted (Jeff Wickersham was a senior and a starter). Tommy started in 1986 as a RS freshman.

I don't have the time or the inclination (more the inclination) to go back and add in bowl stats so I just have the listed records to go by. And in the listed records, Jayden Daniels will show up as I have indicated.

I guess some in our fanbase just can't see anything positive without trying to qualify it.

No worries, I made the exact same mistake using the same article you did. It was not clear when it said freshman that they meant redshirt freshman.

No doubt.
However its not fair to judge a QB from generation to generation.
Different offensive coaches and different rules.
Hodson had one receiver, Wendell Davis, that could have played on the 19 team. Joe had three that are playing NFL and two of those are NFL stars.
No doubt Daniels has three that will make an NFL roster and maybe five or six.

Apologies, it's been rough in here the last 24 hours

And yes, I think the NCAA should try to go back and add in the numbers where they can.
