How the hell could anybody say that Russell was the best QB ever to play here going into the Notre Dame game, when he had never won any kind of championship, or even a bowl game

They don't usually give the Sugar Bowl MVP to the loser of the game do they? Also he would've been the Capital One Bowl MVP if we played any defense the last 15 seconds.

Yep, you nailed it. All through the 06 season the fans who thought Flynn should be given a shot were ridiculed and beaten down. 07 proved that there was some merit to the argument. Excuses are still being made for the greatest QB to ever play for LSU. It's Jimbo's fault, it's Saban's fault, it's the receivers fault, it's the centers fault, it's Katrina.
The guys who led us to a national championships are mediocre, it's the coaches yada, yada, yada.
Check out the Raiders HC's comments about JR. He says the same thing that fans have criticized him about, his lack of timing on his passes.

Jr has some great qualities. He throws as nice a spiral as any BG I have seen. But he has some flaws in his game also. Check out Rohan to Reed and compare JR to Bowe. There is a difference.

so by playing way worse, that merited you being borderline mentally retarded?

Mauck threw 4 tds to 9 ints against ranked teams in 2003. He was not the reason we won and he was actually the reason some of those games were close

You got it roygu! And by the way, I said going into the Notre Dame game, not in that game. Plus Notre Dame was nowhere near a BCS caliber team and everybody knew it. All I can say is that the facts show bookend National Championships before and after Russell. In between, we were pretty good, not great. Russell never beat any power teams going away, but rather made every win difficult. He even made coffee nervous.

Did'nt start or play in SECCG, though I dare say we would have beaten Tennessee worse if he had, but Flynn did win the National Championship Game there bud, and I'll take that anyday!

so if Flynn would have came in in 2005 (which he did) and won the game for us, Russell would be a better QB.

I'm sure running 36 times for 2.1 ypc had nothing to do with the loss or having 1/2 our team injured, or playing for 11 weeks in a row

Flynn was 3 for 11 in that game btw

So what the hell were last year's Auburn, Florida, and Alabama games. We were barely leading Tulane at halftime, does that make Flynn look worse?

Flynn led us in a rout over Ohio St. in the National Championship Game buddy boy, and that's a fact. Also, When Flynn came in in 05 against UGA in SECCG, the Russell led Tigers were already put away, and Flynn came in ice cold and was not a starter. When Flynn had time to prepare as a starter and know he was starting, look what we did against Miami! And yes we did win close games last year against good teams, but we were very injured throughout the year, but we did still win them, along with the SECCG and National Championship Game. Enlighten me a bit, how many of each did Russell win for us and how many bowl games did he win?

I'm not aruing the old Flynn vs. Russell debate. I thought that in '05 there were times that it was worth arguing, but not in '06 when Russell had a great year. I just got involved in this thread when someone called Jamarcus the best LSU QB ever.

So we were very injured last year, but not in 2006 when the team had to play 12 games in a row? Basically this is the same as saying Tee Martin is better than Peyton Manning, anyone who isn't an idiot thinks JR is better, but some rantards will never relent.

Please don't count me in on the Flynn/Russell debate. I'm not involved in that fight. This thread has been hijacked into a debate about 2 QB's when it started as a debate about all previous LSU QB's.

roygu, you're wasting your time man. We've heard it all. The T Martin versus Peyton comparison. The number of TD's versus INT's for MM. The amount of yardage per carry for MF. We've heard about the terrible receivers JR had to deal with, hurricanes and Chubby Checker in his apartment.

I for one, believe that JR was a stud and a great, great QB. But I also believe the fact that he played between NC teams with a loaded team will always hurt his legacy at LSU.

Are we talking greatest QB's or championship TEAMS?...plenty of decent QB's have had championship teams....don't get me wrong, I'll take a championship any day over a great QB, but the list goes on and on of great QB's who never won a championship in college. Exactly who IS the greatest QB to play at LSU? When that question is asked, people go back to the stats for the answers. Hodson, Jones, etc. are some of the replies, but those guys never won a NC. Flynn and Mauck never come up in those questions. Yet when who is the greater QB, Flynn or JR is asked, many point to the NC and say Flynn. It's pretty obvious when you're objective that JR was the better QB...2 coaching staffs, amazing stats, and the NFL draft proves that. Now give me the crystal any day, but head to head as a QB, there's really no comparison.

Yes. JR spent his 1st year and a half as the starter in a fog. RP may have been an idiot off the field, but he would have taken control of the team on the field.
The light came on in the 2nd half of 2006, but "greatest of all time" is just a joke.

You'd better link that shite because I haver been on this site and elsewhere for 5 years, and I NEVER heard anything like that. JRuss may have made some bad decisions in gaames, but I NEVER heard that he was not a hard worker. This really pisses me off.
