People forget that but the NCAA sanctions surrounded the Drake Davis stuff with the tennis player, Les & thing for blondes & Guice being a dickhead.
Please shut up. They lost 2-4 scholarships for 2 years. It was nothing hurting them. Further, the 59 scholarship player issue would have been a major issue 10 years ago, he’ll maybe even 5 years ago, but once free transfers were allowed, it was nothing if you used the portal correctly. LSU had foundational players on the roster and new players with actual college experience that could be scouted could easily be brought in large numbers to fill holes. That’s exactly what Kelly did.
The problem is Kelly hired awful talent developers and mediocre recruiters.
He blew it in those hires and is doubling down with the undeserved promotions that have blown up in his face just in an effort to get one recruit you are paying $5 million for on top of that.

The portal is good for plugging holes at positions of need. It's a serious problem if you are using the portal to find talented starters as well add depth. Again, the majority of the portal players are warm bodies. There are very few game changing players & those players are going to want high dollar NIL money. Those are the type of players you go after if you already have a solid roster with depth & are looking for a player to help push you over the top. Also, it's not as cut & dry as you make it out to be with the loss of upperclassmen every season.
