It's one thing to miss calls. Not see a foul, blow a block/charge call, not see a deflected ball out of bounds. But the worst mistake an official can make IMO is to call a "phantom foul" like the white guy did on Johnson. He told KM emphatically that FJ4 grabbed Nye's wrist and gave her 3 FTs. She hit two of three. Video clearly showed that Nye's shooting arm WAS NOT grabbed, or even hit, as she held the shot follow-through and it didn't move one bit. As Skip said "they aren't umpires or officials, they are lawyers, electricians, and school teachers. THey can't be expected to be good at this". BUT, for what they are paid, and for the consequences of their mistakes to cost universities millions of US$ in playoff money, they have to be better.

If last year’s national championship is any indication, I wouldn’t count on it improving for WBB.

That's what is depressing and discouraging. It seems to actually be getting worse as players get faster and D's become more aggressive and handsy.
