Mason won't play 2nd, Bregman/Jones will be at 2nd & SS most likely. RF or 1st probably.

Latest on Gallo:

@KendallRogersPG: Thinking he signs. RT @Tex2044: @KendallRogersPG Does LSU expect Gallo to sign or do they still think there's a chance he comes to B-Rouge?
This guy has as much knowledge on Gallo as me or you.

And I think he signs too...

Fail

quote:

Kevin Gausman, RHP, Louisiana State

How Gausman looked on Monday essentially boils down to expectations from the evaluator coming to the ballpark. From this evaluator's standpoint, his performance was somewhat disappointing. Many had dubbed Gausman as clear cut elite arm and that he belonged in the conversation for the top pitchers in the class. Based on Monday's performance, he may be a first rounder particularly considering the perceived lack of college depth in the 2012 class, but he doesn't belong near the conversation with pitchers like Mark Appel. He's going to be a draft eligible sophomore in 2012 so he has plenty of time to develop as well. And, this could also have been just a down performance from him. Things started out well for the big righty as he sat 93-95 mph with his fastball, and pretty steadily pumped 94. But in the following innings he saw his velocity dip to 89-92, and while he still reached 94 again the life and command was really all over the map. His slider at 79-82 mph flashed plus bite, and breaks very late, but his command of this pitch was not there on this day either. Ther

That article is from June 2011

Call me crazy but players can improve when given a year with a real live pitching coach.

Yes. It was looking forward to this draft. He was making predictions before the season started.

Not even why I was bringing it up. I was just referencing the fact that he basically said Gausman wasn't even in the same class as Appel coming in to the 2012 season. I think many knew he was.

Just a fun thing to read seeing a forward looking statement like that be flipped upside down.

Have any SEC schools had incoming freshmen drafted in first round and elect to go to college instead? Maybe im crazy but it seems like there were a couple over the last few years.

Yes. See Florida. Not sure how much they're offering players over there, but it must be pretty good.

Got any names? Was telling a guy at work this and he didn't believe me. Thought that was the case with Florida. Also thought maybe USC or vandy had a pitcher.

Yeah @ UF, Whitson was 1st rounder 2 years ago and didn't go. UCLA had one and Vandy's Beede didn't go. That's off the top of my head.

Per PM, on Bregman

quote:

“We’ll look at him as a shortstop and see if he can do it there,” Mainieri said. “But he might also have a shot of playing third base or catching. He’s a pretty versatile guy, and with our first priority being to replace that left side, it’s big for us to get a kid of Alex’s caliber.”

Good article about Bregman on TSD

It will be interesting to see what happens w/ Jacoby/Bregman.

With Cechini coming in, catcher is highly unlikely especially considering our IF needs. Jacoby has all the skills for SS and apparently so does Bregman.

LSU has had the best or one of the best infields in the SEC/Country for several years IMO. I'd like to see that continue. Really was a huge get.

Now PM needs to tell him to start pestering Gallo to come on down. Really not even keeping much hope at all for that, but it would be sweet.

I think Whitson at UF and Beede at Vandy were first rounders.

So, who would you guys rate as gone for sure?

Kevin Gausman=100%
Nick Goody=100%
Raph Rhymes=25%

Joey Gallo=75%
Jesmuel Diaz=90%
Hayden Jennings=90%
Will LaMatche=25%
Alex Bregman=25%

Look about right? If Gallo or Diaz stays with Bregman...oh boy. Going to have a little power to work with behind Rhymes and Katz.

Rhymes should come back. Have another 400 season and his stock may go up. JMO

Don't know about the recruits.

Thanks, at least we'll land Bregman. Hopefully we get Gallo here but I won't get my hopes up. At least we'll finally get some more speed in the OF. SB shows you what a great defensive OF can do.
