Time will tell soon.
But, not sure why you're pessimistic about Rhymes.
NJCAA Division II player of the year 2011
SEC POY 2012
It's not like he just all the sudden found his bat. He's been doing it for two years.

Adam, you know anything about Geonte Jackson?

Very fast athletic infielder at the high school level. I see him playing either LF or CF in college, actually has an above average arm.
His bat needs to develop but when it does he'll be a prototypical lead off hitter...something Mainieri hasn't had much success in finding the past couple of years.

I'm pessimistic in that he had probably his top year he'll ever have in baseball this year which might raise his stock up to maximum. He won't gain much coming back for a senior year if he can't hit .460 again (just stupid) and/or get any better defensively if he's drafted high like he might be this time around.
Keep in mind he hit about 100 points lower last year than this year.

Would you expect Sciambra to fill that role next season if he recovers well?

Oh I agree I don't think he'll hit .460 again, but I don't have any reason to believe he won't be a ~.350 hitter next year.
You're also assuming that he wants to go play minor league ball. If he doesn't go top 15 rounds there really isn't much money there. He's a smart guy. He could very well come back for his senior year to get his degree and pursue other interests.

Next year with his experience most definitely but I ultimately see him as being a great number #2 hitter with his speed and gap to gap power.

Wow, I was thinking he wanted top 10 round money. Doesn't it drop off dramatically after the first 10 rounds?

Yep. No one deserves it more, in my opinion.
He will be sorely missed but what a great player for 4 years.

quote:Yep. Can only get up to $100k after top 10. Not much incentive to leave early after 10.
