After years of achievement and leadership in higher education and five years of planning and lobbying, UL President Dr. Ray Authement was rewarded for his determination on April 27, 1984 as the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities voted by a 17-1 margin to drop the “Southwestern” from USL’s name. On that date, the University of Southwestern Louisiana became THE University of Louisiana
So the people running the university got together and decided to give themselves a different designation? Isn't that exactly what you are saying lsu did with the term "flagship" (which is false) and didn't you call that a joke?
Also, that move got slapped down with the quickness and that Board was determined to not have that authority.

Do you know how poor ULLLLLL fans are?
They are so poor they can't afford the 2nd L. That's why I always post a few extra to let them have one.

Ah yes.. USM when I meant ULM... just getting old... my point stands as valid but my references were indeed wrong...
so focus on the typing not the message junior.. cause you cannot challenge my arguments
Now did I spell everything correctly??

ULL is exactly why I was against Skip's policy of paying the usual $800,000 to State schools to come play in Tiger Stadium (instead of Bowing Green, Toledo, etc). The McNeese coach was gracious and humble - said they had no visions of winning the game, they just wanted to be competitive. Then went on to thank LSU for giving his players and coaches the honor of playing in one of the greatest college football venues in all of America, etc, etc. McNeese took the money after the loss, thanked LSU and graciously went on into the night.
Not so much ULL...
Not so much ULL...

When USl changed so did NLU both schools in the University System. No one school was designated as The University of Louisiana. Rather ULL and ULM. There is no designation for a single one University of Louisiana. Only in the minds of arrogant ULL fans.

They knew their place right

1984 has nothing to do with ULL's naming shenanigans right now.

They were respectful and thankful. If that means knowing their place, then yeah, call a spade a spade.

Yes what actually happened was the board decided on their own to rename ULL, which was then immediately dismissed by higher governing authorities. It'd be like a 10 year old declaring that his bedtime was pushed back to midnight until his parents said "yeah...no that shite ain't happening. Go to bed Timmy"

So much fail
1. You meant ULM instead of USM
2. Next you blame typing
3. Next you say I am critiquing your spelling
Are you drunk or just stupid??

Wow. How pathetic if true. As a fan or player on a team, I would be pissed if the coach said "he had no vision of winning."

They got a check for $800,000 for playing a game. Trust me, they walked away feeling like winners.
