From 2000 through 2007, we competed for the SEC West every year. In every one of those years, there was one game that, if it went the other way, we would have won the title.
That's the definition you were referring to. I'm having a hard time tracing your thought from that to your claim that we didn't compete in 2009.
This is all very hard to explain to another person. Let me try a shorthand version.
LSU Beats Ole Miss
LSU - 10-2
Alabama 12-0
According to you, we wouldn't have competed because Alabama had locked up the division as soon as they beat us.
According to the definition provided above, which you said you agree with, however, we did compete. If there was one game that "went the other way"
LSU beats Alabama
LSU - 11-1
Alabama 11-1
LSU wins the West
Had we beaten Ole Miss then, did we not compete for the West according to this definition?
My final point is, how is it that competing for the division is determined after the division is determined?

i used to be the biggest Miles supporter on here, i defended him with great vigor day in and day out, but the last few months have been too much. the penn state game, retaining coach stud, the fact that shep didnt throw a single pass all year; i cant take it any more.
I like miles as a person very much, but this team has been fricking terrible for two years now. i give him a pass for 2008, RP screwed up everything, but there is no reason on earth the 09 team should have been so painfully average. he should have been fired. he deserved to be fired.

9-4 record, #3 in the SEC, #17 nationally.
The offense was painful. The team itself was actually better than most believe it to have been but was overshadowed by the last two minutes of Ole Miss and Penn State.
You believe that four minutes is the difference between a "painfully average" team and a team that finishes 11-2?

Little does greenspan know that his new piece of furniture was stolen last night...

What does it mean to "compete" for the SEC title? Every team competes for it. If competing for the title means being a threat to win it, then that's something an elite program should do almost every year, not every couple of years.
What part of "Compete for SEC Title" don't you get? You compete for Div Title during the season and don't compete for SEC Title unless you win Div.
.

With the strength of this conference (forget we play UF yearly?),if you think we can be in SEC Title game every year, you're setting yourself up for big dissapointment. No wonder you seem perpetually mad at the world.
You need to go root for Boise or the suckeyes in their one horse race conferences. You'll feel much better(as long as you stay on your meds).

I'd say I am still happy, but am growing less content...if we don't win 10 this year, I will officially change my stance...
let's face it, odds are that if we change coaches, he won't be as successful as Miles....

Definitely NOT HAPPY.
In fact, I can't stand the guy. I think he's bad for LSU football and not worth even a fraction of the $3.8 million he's getting paid.

Position A: Saban never leaves for Miami
Position B: LSU hires Jon Gruden to replace Miles
Position C: Miles returns to double digit winning seasons.

CHERISH THE SPORT AND THE COMPETITION. DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE BASHING AND THE RIPPING APART THE PEOPLE WHO PUT IT ON THE LINE FOR THE UNIVERSITY WE LOVE.
GIVE THEM YOUR SUPPORT WHEN THEY FAIL JUST LIKE YOU DO WHEN THEY SUCCEED.
THEN CALL YOURSELF A FAN AND BREATH IN THE AIR WHEN THEY TAKE THE FIELD IN ANY SPORT AND YELL WITH ALL YOUR HEART .
THEN WIN OR LOSE YOU HAVE THE LSU PRIDE AND SPIRIT WITH YOU AND IT WILL TRAVEL WITH YOU A LIFETIME.
You can love the team and support them without being a sheep and following blindly someone who is almost single handedly running the program into the ground.

We were dead in the middle of competing for the SEC West title until the fourth quarter against Alabama. We win that game and are tied for the SEC West lead with the tiebreaker. Then maybe Ole Miss never even happens. Who knows. My crystal ball is broken. I can't see the future or what the past would have been. To say that we did not compete for the SEC West title this year is absurd. We finished 3 games back, but that in no way tells the whole story. It was a lot closer than 3 games.

Apparently you and many like you have no fricking clue that Miles has earned LSU more money by far, than any other Coach in LSU History? What do you think LSU pulled in for the 2007 Season? That's one season. How about 2009? 3.8 Million????? LOL!! What a joke.

Yep, you can do whatever you want.
Maybe the LSU Team will take on the same attitude as you? How would that work out? I guess it's worth it to you to have a losing season, just to get a Coach fired?
Why should the 2011 LSU Football Commitments bother to come to LSU?
Maybe Spencer Ware, Ego Ferguson, Kadron Boone &
Justin Maclin etc. will just pull an 'ol Saban recruit Lavelle Hawkins & transfer?
Maybe they can "Save Themselves" before it's too late?

I am happy with being Alabama, Florida and Ole Miss' bitch.

2 seasons were non-competitive and anybody who thinks otherwise either did not look at the games
Last season wasn't competetive? Lets see, BCS champ beat #2 handily by 16, took to UF to woodshed for 19, and had a rough day with LSU until we lost Scott and JJ. Our avg margin of defeat was 5.75 in 4 games lost and a couple of those were against really stiff competition, #1s in fact. LSU wasn't great last year, but to say we suck is just bogus.
It was a vast improvement over '08 and anybody that just lumps the 2 seasons together as farked either isn't looking close, or a GUMP stirring the pot.
