Tiger Voodoo is right on. I've always trusted Miles, no matter how unpopular my opinion was. But it's not time for "I told you so."
Yeah man I totally agree. I honestly didn't run and start a thread to say haha we were right all along. I only posted what I did as a response to a clear ranter that was attacking Miles yet again saying Cam changed the whole offense since being hired in February. Not a told you so kind of guy, but I just didn't want to hear shite like that this week in what should, and actually has been, a really positive time on this board.
Just enjoying this win and what is shaping up to be a damn fun season.

I wasn't accusing you of having that attitude. I was just putting that out there.
And in response to the rest of what you said:

We were never trailing vs TCU, yet we still passed at a decent rate. Mettenberger attempted 22 passes in the first half Saturday. Last year he avergaed 27 attempts for the games.
That's definitely a good observation.
But again, we just weren't as effective throwing the ball last year, especially early on. Mett was a first year starter, the OL was in shambles, Jarvis was completely unproven, and Odell was adjusting to being the #1 WR with Randle gone.
In contrast, the running game with Blue, Ware, Ford, Hilliard, and Hill was the clear strength of the team.
At the end of the year last year, here were Mett's numbers:
@Texas A&M 11 29 97 1 0
Alabama 24 35 298 1 0
Miss St 19 30 273 2 0
Ole Miss 22 37 282 0 2
@Arkansas 16 29 217 1 0
@Clemson 14 23 120 1 1
That's averaging over 30 attempts a game. Again, we were down in a couple of those games, but this change was clearly coming whether Cam was here or not.
Once Lee and JJ were gone, the offense was slowly opening up again, and Mett was ready this year to really be the rock of this O. Cam will certainly help that, of course, because he's a great fricking coach, but fact is this O was going to be much much better and more aggressive in 2013 no matter what.

Yes, we threw more at the end of last season than at the beginning.
Reading through your responses, I don't think that we are far off on our opinions. I don't believe that LSU was "wide open" Saturday, and I don't believe that we should be a pass heavy team. However, I do believe that "when" we throw, and the "type of routes" that are in the pass play are an important factor. Last year there were many times that we attempted short passes into a stacked box, which really defeats the purpose. The defenders are all bunched in tight anyway, so there is no room for the receivers to get open.

I saw that, too.
it looked to me that blue was being hesitant on purpose with a designed delay.
thoughts?

No doubt man. Those are all great points.
Like I said, Cam will definitely make his presence known. As an East Coast guy for a long time now, I've been able to watch a whole lot of Ravens football, and I think Cam is a great football mind and more than anything an elite QB guru that may well be second to none. Krag was very good as well, but nowhere near Cam imo.
Cam's influence at the college level is going to be huge, and his play calling and ability to diagnose a defense from the coach's box will certainly be better than Stud's as well

On the negatiger side run up the middle on 1st down was frustrating.
That play is not going anywhere. Its effective, and think of it as taking a sledgehammer to the opposing D-Linemen.

No screen passes completed and little use of the tight end(s).
We tried screens several times, but the TCU defenders were all over our RBs. There was one to Blue that comes to mind when Mett took a sack. Replay showed the TCU LB basically tackled Blue. Those plays will come.

Looking forward to G2 Sat. night in Tiger stadium. Hope to see LSU open up the play book and give all the defensive coordinators in the SEC something to really think about as they prepare for our soon-to-be "wide open" offense.
Okay folks, we had a 60-40 run/pass split. Last season, it was like 70-30. We rushed for 200 and threw for 250. LSU has not seen that kind of balance in a long, long time. I saw, late in the game, Mett convert a huge 3rd down after two straight runs, basically ending any chance for TCU to get the ball back. Last year, we run again and punt. If OBJ makes those two long catches, both thrown perfectly, Metts got 350 passing.
The runs up the middle everyone bitches about opened up a Play Action which was used to perfection all night. The screen game will come around, because the mugging happening at the LOS is not going to fly from most officiating crews.
Drew Brees is one of the most prolific passers in the history of the NFL, who's thrown for 10,000 plus yds that past two years, and all you've heard from Saints camp this offseason is returning to "balance". I'll take a balanced offensive attack from the Tigers all day, every day. All the way to a championship.

and not all defenses have DB's they're willing to leave on an island to load the box

It's true that the running game sets up play action, but those running plays don't need to be predictable off-tackle runs. Any run play will set up play action later. So I'd like to see less of the first down off-tackle plays and make the running plays more diverse and less predictable.

Someone posted they ran up the middle on 1st down every series..... Just saying. I didn't watch replay but they did run up the middle a lot on early downs. Too predictable.

Great point Fore.
That TCU secondary is outstanding. If Mett isn't throwing laser beams and Jarvis and Odell beasting out, we couldn't have had much success.
As great as we looked, rarely were our receivers running free. Mett had to fit passes into extremely tight windows, and the receivers had to make great adjustments and catches. Really shows how in sync they are.
Can't wait to see what we do to teams without the talent in the defensive backfield that TCU has.

I'm not sold yet on the offensive execution at this point but the play calling appears to be diverse
the execution was good for game 1; not great but good. i think that we will improve a lot and be able to do things us fans haven't seen for awhile. the #1 thing i liked was that selling out to defend the run is simply not an option anymore if an opponent wants to beat us. oh, they can try and some probably will but our passing game will defeat that. everything else i saw was secondary to this and i celebrated that after the game as much as the victory and sported a class A hangover sunday to prove it.

I thought Cam did a good job adjusting to TCU's defense. They were lining up in the gaps and making zone blocking tough for the linemen. Once he started calling trap plays, the backs got some good long runs. TCU's corners were good and they were depending on them to shut down the pass so they could load up the box. Mett, ODB and Jarvis' play was what defeated TCU's strategy IMO. Great game overall....just need some cleanup before SEC play.
