No, the odds in June are not pure predictions (for what thats worth which is not much) but it still speaks to the notion that very little is thought of this team. I don't see Florida and Alabama predicted to lose 5 games in order to goad their fans into betting on games.

Seriously, if the Tigers fail to beat another quality opponent again this year, things may be changing.

Teams didnt like to play LSU

What does that even mean and how could you possibly know? If you are saying SEC teams/players/coaches had some kinda fear of LSU, I believe that to be false. This is the SEC and members might respect each other, but there is no fear taking place. I don't believe any SEC team ever looked at their schedule, saw LSU on it, and said, "I don't want to play them".

That's little more than forum BS.

What I can say for Miles is that he took what Nick started and continued it for 3 elite seasons the likes of have never been seen before at LSU.

What happens next I really don't know and no one else here does either. I can wait and see before I do any cliff jumping, but I know others like to get the jumping out of the way 1st before they see what the season holds. I think that might be where your fear comes into play. I don't understand that, but each to our own.

LSU could have been 7-6 last year with a little more effort, MSU and LA Trch could have easily beaten LSU, they certainly outplayed the Tigers. Washington was not exactly a blow out either.

Pre-season spreads ? If pre-season polls are useless what does that make this stuff ?

we had 11-2 talent but 7-6 coaching. I'm convinced Jefferson is servicable enough to win 10 regular season games.

Either way....they finished at 9-4. I don't really give a shite about "could've".

Let me end the suspense for you. 8-5 and 9-4 are what happened next.

I get this only from the historical standpoint, home team usually wins in this matchup

because i hate it when people say "we could've gone....", so i decided to play along but in my usual overly optimistic way.

You'd think Saban was on the sidelines in '05, '06 and '07 listening to you. The Ghost of Saban coaches us thru '07 and hauls arse in '08.
Wouldn't Miles have brought the program to it's knees in 3 years if he sucked so bad?

Not necessarily. It took Mike Archer three years and he was much worse and took over a program that wasn't as strong. It took Coker even longer at Miami.

And our preseason ranking going into 2005 had nothing to do with Les Miles and everything to do with the team he was inheriting.

I think the only way that Miles really gets his credibility back is to do something that no one expects him to do next year. In a word, he has to shift the balance of power in the SEC,

Well, he's already done that. Let's hope he can do it again, but this time in the right direction.

Vegas odds makers also said we were 9 point underdogs if we played USC in 2003. And who has the trophy??!!

We won't lose more than 2 games with our talent.

The good thing about Vegas odds makers is that, if they're wrong, they're willing to double your net worth. Go for it if you think you know better than they do.

First, Miles inherited a program that had two top 3 recruiting classes in a row, one of them number 1 (03 and 04) The program was stocked, and it was probably the best program in the SEC at that time. There are probably 15-20 coaches who would have had success coming to LSU in 2005, Miles is one of them.

Everyone knows that for the most part, in years 4 and 5, the head coach really starts making his mark on the program. THAT is where the concern is coming from. It's not that Miles is a terrible coach, it's that he's a 8-5/9-4 type coach. That is not good enough to get LSU to the SECCG or play in a BCS bowl. Those who want LSU to play at the level they are capable of understand that the level Miles is taking us is NOT the level LSU should be at. That said, I hope Miles proves me wrong and makes LSU THE elite program of the SEC.
