The only time i've ever hated Notre Dame was during the 06 Sugar Bowl when the announcers would't stop sucking off Brady Quinn.

Other than that they have always been my 2nd favorite team due to family attending the school.

I grew up with a kid who was a shithead. He was an arse at 7 and an arse now at 45. He sported ND crap (and still does) because his dad graduated from there. So as a young 'un I started hoping the Domers would lose. It's so bad now that I stop going to mass because the crucifix at our church looks too much like Touchdown Jesus.

I personally dont like the Irish because they are pumped up every year by all the talking heads, and every year is supposed to be "the come back year", and they continue to suck... and... they refuse to join a conference because they fear real competition... they were a force 20 yrs ago.. but not anymore..

i love notre dame. they are my second favorite college team. there is a huge difference between first and second though. i would love to see notre dame come back; they are damn good for college football. anyone who hates notre dame, imo, is merely expressing a prejudice because i can not imagine a bona fide reason not to at least like them.

1970, 3-0 ND win, with two LSU TD's called back by the zebras for one.

Back in 1969 LSU had a great team. The Cotton Bowl was one of the 4 major bowls that played on New Years back then & LSU was prepared to go play in it. That invite was assured behind the scenes by Cotton Bowl officials when the invitations were to be revealed. Notre Dame didn't play in bowls back then...then (ND) voted to start that year in a last minute decision. 9 and 1 (loss to Ole Miss, 23 to 26) LSU was left out of the bowl picture because the Cotton Bowl jumped on ND when they said would a played that year.

This. Add to it ND's entitlement mentality, along with unnecessary annual media fellatio and voila....

ND is no better than schools like UT, Mich, USC, etc.

It's not just LSU, the nation hates Notre Dame. I can't remember the last time I saw a ND post on the Rant, I don't think many people care.

Where does the lsu/notre dame hate come from?

First, there is the general disgust that everybody has for Notre Dame.

But the additional special hatred from LSU fans dates from the very first game between the two teams -- November 21, 1970.

That year, Notre Dame had the nation’s #1 offense. LSU had the nation’s #1 defense.

The game was on national TV, and the commentators of the day treated LSU with contempt, because we were just a bunch of dumbass southern crackers, like everybody else from south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Well, those southern dumbasses were holding the game to a scoreless tie, in the pre-overtime era. A tie would knock ND out of MNC consideration.

And Notre Dame, remember, is superior -- simply because they are Notre Dame. A tie, especially in a game against those inferior, ignorant southerners, would be simply unacceptable -- to the fans, the alumni, the commentators, and (especially) God.

But God made his wishes known that day, in the form of His Instruments -- the zebras.

With about 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, LSU was hit with a phantom (as demonstrated by subsequent film study) pass interference penalty -- giving Notre Dame an automatic first down at the spot of the foul.

It was the closest that ND had been to LSU’s end zone all day. They managed a field goal.

Final score: ND 3, LSU 0.

There was justifiable rage and gnashing of teeth, throughout Tiger Nation.

For those Tiger fans who are too young to have lived through that day, the contempt for Notre Dame is simply one more LSU tradition.

But for those of us who were around to actually witness it (I was 22), the unbridled hatred of Notre Dame is implacable, immortal, and entirely justified.

Have a nice day.

This is moronic. You should hate the Cotton Bowl.

Excellent diatribe, sir. I love it. I consider myself steeped in LSU lore and history, yet I had never heard this particular tale of Catholic treachery. Thanks for the information. Another reason to hate Notre Dame.

Someone else in this thread said that the officials also called back an LSU TD that day. True?

I hate Notre Dame because their fans are a bunch of smug, pasty faced mediocrities who have have an unjustified, overinflated sense of their own academic and athletic worth; a herd of ugly middle managers in training who will forever harken back to the glory days of the Four Horsemen. It's as if someone needs to remind them, forcibly, each and every day, that they haven't won an NC in a fricking quarter century. I hope their campus burns to the ground and the cinders are swept away in a providential windstorm (with no injuries or casualities, obviously).

mr. The312, this is undoubtedly the most comprehensive hate paragraph i have ever read. this alone, forget the object of scorn, should have got you an A+ in english class. i'm betting you have never been to their campus nor attended mass at the Basilica. both are a moving experience and I highly recommend them.
