Matty Ott is a closer and the leading closer in the nation.........he will not be moved from a spot where he has dominated.......

Thanks and have a nice day,

All I keep reading on baseball threads are people who think because Ott CLOSED against Bama and went 7 innings that he may be moved.......that is and will be his job until some major league team drafts him to do it.

And what will people say when he is starting game 2 in the CWS or an elimination game in a regional or super regional?

Why is it so important for you to say something that might make you look like a moron in the future. PM did not rule out moving Ott to the starting (weekend) rotation. He specifically said that Matulis and JB need to show they are ready over the next few weeks.

Would it be great to be able to keep Ott in the closer's role? Of course. Is it over the top crazy to think Ott may end up being our number 2 starter in postseason? ummm...no.

IMO we have one consistant, proven starter...that's not enough come regional/SR/CWS time.

i think we need to keep ott in the pen esp bc how rocky our pen has been.

though i wouldn't be against starting him on sunday if he hasn't pitched all weekend or he just pitched a short inning on friday. I wouldn't do it to often though bc dont want to wear down his arm

Teams don't get to Omaha and then try something that they haven't done throughout the year. If Matty Ott was going to move to the starting rotation, it would happen during the regular season. Now maybe in post-season play if LSU have to play about 3 games in 2 days, it's possible that by that point he may need to start a game.

But let's say Matty Ott starts a game in Omaha, there is no way he goes 9 innings. So with the season on the line in the 8th and 9th innings, who do you pull out of the bullpen to get the last 6 outs?

Matty Ott pitching as a starter in the college world series is a legitimate argument........one that makes some sense considering the circumstances.......

Matty Ott pitching as a starter this weekend doesn't make that much sense considering you are trying to find that guy in Matulis and Bourgious.

Well...maybe we dont even get that chance if we have to start JB and he walks every other batter and gives up 5 or 6 early runs. Id be comfortable with Ross coming in to close things out. He has great stuff and throws strikes. That's all you can ask for.

If its for an inning or two, and is a need, I wouldn't mind Ranaudo coming in to finish it, or Ross

I could see Ranaudo trying to close it out, but remember, he just had arm problems, and he never recovered quickly in the first place. He undoubtedly would have pitched very recently or he'd be starting the game anyway.

It's alot easier to get outs in the first couple of innings in a game than the last inning. Ross got NSU out 1-2-3 in the 9th last night, but the radio account made it sound like three well hit balls to the warning track or right at people.

If desperate, try to get through the first 5 innings with Johnny Wholestaff, and then trash the set-up guys and go straight to Ott.

LSU didn't need a tarp when it rained, they threw his hat on the field to cover the entire infield.

that's as good as a starter to me

if he started a game 2 days before, and we need 3 or 6 outs to win an elimination game, I don't think Mainieri would rule out throwing him. Hell, Anthony prob shouldn't have been pitching in the CWS last year because his arm was tiring, but what are you going to do, you have to throw him.
