I'm 66 and have been an LSU fan since the 60's. Two things have made the losses less horrible. Living out-of-state where it's not rehashed 24/7 and realizing it is, after all, just a game. My son was in a horrific rollover crash last year and the next week we lost to Georgia. I was getting Facebook posts from people asking me if I was okay (from non-LSU fans). I was strangely calm and have been since that time. Luckily my son is fine and only has scars that remind me each day is precious.

I'm with you, buddy. After we won the second national title, I decided to enjoy the season and adopt a healthier mental attitude when it came to LSU football. After all, I never expected to see us win one national title, let alone two. The same thing holds true when it comes to the Saints and the Red Sox. I feel as though I've been extremely fortunate in my life as a sports fan. Now if Leeds United could make it back to the Premiership I could die a happy man.

Likewise and it can be fixed but its been more frustrating than fun since that game.

I don't get amped up this year because I wasn't expecting much.

Low expectations makes it easy to watch the game and not get too emotionally involved.

Now, if this team was expected to be competing for a national championship, the. I'd be more amped up.

I swear that losing never really bothered me until I started reading t.d. and read all of the bama fans talking shite. this site consumed me when it came to football season a few years ago.

Sounds like a bunch of you old farts need to have your fan cards revoked. Just because you have a life with kids etc does not mean you can't get passionate when your Tigers play once a weekend. If you lost the passion then you are not a fan gtfo I can't even pretend to relate to this bs. Sound like a bunch of women.

When you have seen every possible scenario your team can be in, what is left?

It's scenarios with different players.... Are you serious. You' probably said the same thing till you saw Mathieu put up a crazy heisman campaign.

Sounds like you're growing up. Moving away from Louisiana probably helped a lot in that area.

More correctly, I think it's entirely normal to be less compassionate as we age. You just tend not to take shite off of anybody.

Completely normal. I would never let the results of 18-22yo football players actually affect my life in a significant way.

It's just boys playing a game. It's nice when they are good, sucks when they are bad, and really sucks when they should be good but coaches seem to get in the way.

I'm over a win or lose as soon as the game ends because it's just 18 to 22 year old boys out there.

I am 46 . In my early twenties , I would literally get depressed if the tigers or saints lost a meaningful game. I was in college in Texas and I listened to the games at night. My girlfriend and I would go out on Saturday nights and I would scan the car radio in hopes of picking up Hawthorne and the game. Losing a game would affect me for like 12 hours. By Sunday afternoon I would feel better. My girlfriend still kids me about it 28 years later. But I have seen two nattys in football and six in baseball and it did not give me everlasting happiness. The next season I got upset after another loss.

Finally, self esteem and happiness comes from God and your friends and family. A game is just a game. Played by teenagers for the most part. If I allow how I feel about my life be dictated by others then I need professional therapy and guidance.

Don't be that guy or gal. Life is too short.
