I looked at the LSU Sports.net football roster and I counted 51 freshmen (includes HS and RS) on the 120 man roster (see LSU Football Roster - 2018. You have to play freshmen if 50/120 (over 41%) on your roster are listed as freshmen.

In 2016, we had 50 freshmen (includes HS and RS).

In 2015, we had 42 freshmen (includes HS and RS).

In 2014, we had 49 freshmen (includes HS and RS).

I didn't realize that we've had this same youth problem every year for at least the last 4 years (too lazy to count years prior to 2014).

Don't think I buy into the "we are young" theory for this team (when compared to the last 4 years).

Nice try, genius. Go back and collect your thoughts and try again. You didn't think this one all the way through.

We haven't had to play this many freshmen in key roles in the past.

Safe to say we've experienced growing pains every season the last 4 years..... Might be able to attribute our youth to that.

more than 4 years for sure.

Just on memory alone our attrition going back to the 2010 team has been high.

That's the downside of putting so many in the NFL.

You have to recruit to account for it, but it's not easy.

The 'key roles' thing is what's not every year. Often, but not every year. And you can see it in results.

We'd shuffle off 4-7 defensive players to the NFL, rough year defensively the next. It's just been annoying that when we have all the pieces together on one side of the ball (e.g. Mett/OBJ/Hill/Landry) we're rebuilding on the other side. Not much you can do about it... except be annoyed or start buying chargers.

Any comparison to other upper-crust sec teams?

Freshman is singular. The word you're looking for is freshmen.

When the season ended we looked like a veteran team ready to make a run at a title. Teuhema, Weathersby, Malone Clapp and a position open with fierce competition from Brumfield and some prized recruits. Guice, williams Brossete and Both FB's with Chark and a plethora of talent for the other Wr spot. Moreau and Etling, finally a returninbg competent QB, rounding out the offense.

At DL, Sr's Herron, Gilmore Lacouture with Lawrence and Alexander and we hoped Shelvin. At Lb White, Key and Sr's Alexander and Copeland. Divinity and a couple talented freshman LB's pushing for playing time.

Jackson and Tolliver with Battle and Paris pushed by a couple of talented freshmen at safety.

Things happen in football, some good some bad. Its the coaching that make an elite program yr after year.

We had 8 players drafted. I don't know how many got signed after the draft. Even a lot of the non freshmen starters are young from an experience stand point.

We have talent, but they're young and inexperienced. None of this is an excuse for losing to Troy, IMO. But this is a new list of a-team Tigers. I do think some can be attributed to guys not playing with heart and intensity, but they are inexperienced overall. They're getting better obviously.

LSU knew Fournette and Adams were leaving as jr's the day they got on campus. White, Pocic, Beckwith & Riley were out of eligibility. Godchaux and Dupree were iffy at leaving. 5th and 7th rounders.

Bower Neal and Dural out of eligibility.

We had plenty of players that had played significant football returning it seemed after the season ended last year and a returning competent Qb, a heisman candidate at Rb and defensive player of the yr hopeful. Its not like the we were rebuilding when the season ended last yr more like reloaded, but things happen in football some good some bad every year.
