If you don't care about WBB fine, go away, this is not for you! But we MUST have a program (Title IX)and we mine as well TRY and be good.

Year 10 of Nikki and we stink. So, do we really need to go to Vegas TWICE in two weeks? I assume the trip is not free! Last time we got routed both times, this time we play lightweights so we likely get to 3-3 (oh boy)...And before you say its a covid year top programs like Texas and Miss st have new coaches this year...

700K+ for 10 years for what? No NCAA and a losing record in SEC this year and Nikki will leave after this year with an overall SEC losing record and $7M+...Thanks Joe, Thanks Miriam

The budget is tight this year but let's send the women's hoops team to vegas twice
That's sound fiscal spending

While I agree with what you are saying about the state of the program and it is definitely time to bring in a new coach the two trips to Vegas were for invitationals and I am pretty sure they foot the Bill for most of the travel. Not entirely sure how they work.

LOVE to know if true, someone will know and would at least show some fiscal soundness....lsualum95 will know I bet....

I agree with you and want to see Nikki gone and them bring in either a well established coach with success or a bright up and comer.

However, to be fair, MSU only hired a new coach b/c TX took theirs; so it's not like they were paying a buyout to fire and hire a new coach. They are likely saving money by paying the new one less. Hell, TX may have even had to pay MSU to get Shaefer.

I'll have to look it up; but I'm pretty sure this isn't accurate on her buyout. From what I remember, when they did her new contract, they actually lessened the buyout, even though they were lengthening the contract. The one smart thing Alleva actually did in that situation.

ETA: Never mind, I just re-read your statement and get what you are saying now. Thought you were referencing her buyout.

For what it is worth though, here is a link to when the extension was discussed back in 2018. If they fired her after this season, I think LSU would only owe her $200k; so that's very doable. LINK

I worked in Intercollegiate Athletics and they (Vegas) don't cover the bill.

This is used for exposer to the program(s) at the tournament. Hence why almost all women's programs are in the red at the end of the year. Spend a ton on travel and arrangements but bring little in to offset.

Did not mean $7,000,000 was her buyout, meant she will have made over $7M in her 10 years here..I think you are right about her buyout..

Before it was about money, teams like La Tech, Old Dominion and TN, USC and Stanford dominated. La Tech won it all in 88, got ROBBED in 94 and was better than LSU until late 1990's when LSU and others saw what UCONN did with next to no $.

LSU went to 5 final fours in a row in 2000's but lost in all 5. Still 10 straight NCAA's at least 2nd round and always top 25, SEC champs or 2nd to UT. Then Pokey scandal, had to hire a man in Van, and on to Nikki, who I (and most) felt would do a great job..Never happened, no work ethic, lose best recruits, lost the "big" donors WBB had under Sue and Pokey...Thanks Joe and Miriam, Nikki should have been gone 3 years ago.

Not sure about that. This team is really bad. It was a struggle to beat Lafayette. I was surprised that she seemed to have gotten the message that she needed to improve last year and they were competitive. They were pushing message that they had more bodies this year and got a few decent recruits. However, in the 4 games so far, they have been terrible. Even their normal solid defense is gone. The Aussie (?) girl can at least make a few 3s it seems. Pointer has been a turnover machine and can’t buy a free throw. They at least moved her to off guard last game. I was a big supporter of the original hire based on what she did at UCLA, but she needs to go after this year.
