Oklahoma didn't win its conference championship. Makes a lot of sense in the context of that season.

It wasnt about LSU..it was about bob stoops crying and begging to get into the big game after k-state pimp slapped the sooners...

Now that little nikki is doin the same thing (begging) that big bob was doin in 03, the media all of a sudden develops amnesia....if it was ever found it would really make nikki look like a hypocrite.....

But the prevailing wisdom at the time was that USC was the team that didn't belong not OU, they were considered the best thing ever. Also the only time Saban would have talked to the media after OU's loss was the postgame of the SECCG. Pretty sure someone would have found footage of that by now.

That makes less sense. So Stoops, who didn't win his own conference that year said a team that didn't win it's conference shouldn't get in?

Your being pretty loose with the words "prevailing wisdom"...... it makes perfect sense. All three were lobbying for a spot.

Quote "Nick Saban has never lied."

Just like him saying "I'm not going to be the coach at Alabama."

No I'm not the prevailing wisdom, especially in BR, was that USC and their weak PAC-10 ball didn't belong. OU only had to lobby for 24 hours and USC was on the outside looking in. If this quote could be attributed to anybody it would be Pete Carroll.

actually it does LSU, USC, and Oklahoma all had one loss and out of those three Oklahoma didn't win their conference KSU did.

Its context is that saban thought LSU and USC should play and not have oklahoma in the title game. He was trying to make sure LSU got in the game.

at the time

Oklahoma-#1 bcs
USC-#2 bcs
LSU #3 bcs.

Oklahoma's lose along with LSU defeating Georgia propelled LSU to #1 in BCS, Oklahoma #2 and USC #3 since they did not have a final championship game to help or hurt them like the other 2.

You guys realize, of course, that this quote would have been said in 2003? It's not like anyone would have to roll down to the library and bust open the microfilm and start pouring over dingy copies of old newspapers to find this quote if it existed anywhere.

This quote + Google should = Paydirt

"Relative to anyone who doesn't win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game." - Nick Saban (2003) .... Forgot to put "relative" in there!

I know Saban lobbied very hard to get us into the BCS title game that year. I think his quote was something more along the lines of "We are deserving of being in the Sugar Bowl because we won the conference championship in the toughest conference in football."

Maybe not exact words, but that's the gist of what he was saying.

Sure, that he's a liar. How's that relevant here?

Again, he didn't say this in 1923 and the only hope we'd have to find this quote would be pouring through boxes of old newsprint. It would have been said in December of 2003, and it would have been a HUGE line from a high profile coach in the midst of a huge story involving the BCS, which means it would have been picked up and re-reported damn near everywhere that was talking about the game.

If he had said it, it could be found in context in any of the original articles that would have featured it. If he had said it on camera, we'd have seen it replayed by now. It would have been impossible to cover it up at this point.

It appears that you do have an Internet connection. So find the quote. And a link to Alabama begging for anything.
