I will clarify in the OP. The auto bids are taken the highest ranked teams from the appropriate conferences depending on the bowl. The at large spots are then claimed starting from the highest ranked team that isn't in the playoff or claimed by an auto-bid and then the next highest team and so on until there are no more at large spots. This is all done by the committee based on what they think the best place and match up will be for those teams. So there is some play with the at large bids but it isn't up to the bowls. It is still done by the committee.

I don't think people necessarily are. But if we're going to talk New Years 6 bowls, you have to assume LSU wins out. We're looking at the scenarios in the New Years Six bowls in this thread, so therefore we assume LSU beats Texas A&M. But of course they should not be taken lightly.
