SIAP. or should it go to MSB? Might not have done a good enough search.

Is this the "Les Miles kicker and punter" rule?

Three is crazy, especially with that picture. How the heck is a defensive guy supposed to tackle a runner if the runner lowers himself towards the ground. The only place to hit him is in the upper shoulder and head area. If a defensive player does that then they get kicked out for the game. That's crazy.

I'm all for safety in the game and less head hits but I have to see this enforced responsibly before I think it's a good rule.

None of the changes are monumental IMO. Miles wouldn't have tried to spike the ball against Ole Miss with a second left with these rules. haha

Part 2 of targeting applies to the defensive side of the ball, as a player can be ejected for "launching" himself into another player's head or neck area.

I don't know how this is going to be applied uniformly other than in obvious cases.

so if the ball carrier turns his boday, which looks like whats happening in #3, the defender will get penalized. Might has well just not allow tackling.

Yeah. That really isn't a "launch". Both feet are on the ground.

I don't get that either. They say its to have a reasonable amount of time to run a play, but if I spike it with one second left on the clock then I have time to run a play.

What am i not getting about that.

A player is no longer forced to miss a down if the player's helmet comes off during play. The team now has an option to call a timeout to avoid missing that player for a down.

That will NEVER be used...

quote:

If an injury is the only reason for a clock stoppage at the end of a half, the opponent may opt to take 10 seconds of the clock. The team with the injured player may call a timeout to prevent the 10 seconds from coming off of the clock.

I like this though.

The targeting rules are just pussifying CFB... I hate it, but I guess it's necessary with all the new studies coming out.

quote:

A team needs at least three seconds on the clock in order to spike the ball and play another down. The three-second minimum creates reasonable time for the additional play.

lol, so football games are now 2 seconds shorter.

Looks like we have to find more numbers for the kickers.

So if the offensively player and the defensive player lower their head and shoulder, then the defensively player gets ejected? Got it.

Penalized and ejected is the way I read it. Tm would have been gone for the game on that one hit, where the runner is turning himself to get hit in the head. You can't expect TM to get lower when he is running full speed towards a offense guy like that.

The nfl guys were talking about this the other night. With them making nfl guys get lower and lower, be prepared to see a lot of knee and leg injuries in the future. It will be the same for college athletes.
