problem is now we are not considered one of the elite teams even in our conference. those teams are florida and bama. This ship is starting to tilt considering we are staring at a 3-4 loss season.

and the rebuilding comments are starting to surface from the cool aid nation. Elite programs do not rebuild they just reload ask texas and florida.

I got ONE WORD FOR YA!!!! SABAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be swell for your argument and all, but we're not going to finish this season with 3-4 losses.

And BTW, that Texas team that you're so high on went 9-3 in 2006 and 2007. Which is actually worse than most are predicting us to do this year

and do you consider LSU on the level of Texas, I sure in the hell don't. Texas is not trending down like lsu is. Remember we had 3 losses when we won the sec in 2001. Can't just look at the records. my point being: was the 96 lsu team with 2 losses better than the LSU of 2001? they weren't.

How much are you willing to lose? what gives you confidence based on what has taken place so far this year to base your argument? Defense has improved but we will not score points offensively and we will struggle with the turnover margin. Not good in the best conference in the nation.

we are not going to beat bama. that will not happen however I will be more than glad to eat crow if we do win. and leslie is due for a couple gameday frickups down the stretch. Our best bet for a sec win is next week with hosting auburn.

Then it's a good thing that LSU in 1996 and LSU in 2001 never had to play each other. You can't make that comparison because the entire sphere of college football changed, not just our team. 2001 went 9-3 against the competition they faced. 1996 went 9-2 against the competition they faced. Apples and Oranges.

If you can imagine a win against Auburn, why is it so hard to imagine a win against an Arkansas team that has the worst defense in the conference and an Ole Miss team whose offense is suffering as badly and possibly more than ours?

I agree that at this moment, Alabama would certainly be a loss. But we don't play Alabama this weekend and a lot could change between then and now.

You're selling the team short.

honestly CUM didn't trust Brantley to get it done.

Even CUM knows that young, inexperienced QBs are not at their best against good defenses. JJ is 19, do the math.

We've been talking about LSU's status as an elite team. Saban improved us from a bad team to a very good team, but only in 2003 were we ever "elite." Try to stay within the frame of the discussion.

You are OUT of the frame of this if YOU can't see that Saban built it and Miles CAN'T keep it afloat. BTW ALL OF SABANS PLAYERS ARE GONE. THE RESULT IS WHAT YOU SEE!!!

here we go with the classic cool aid nation spin points. Saban left Miles with not one but two Bentleys in the driveway. problem is Miles has totaled the cars. It was a complete fricking travesty that we didn't play for the national title in 2006 which was the best team in the history of the program. Keep in mind we had some serious football gods on our side in 07 with a last second play to win the Auburn game. we lost to ky and ark that year which by many college football expert's account was a down year for college football. I think the outcome of the West Virgina/Pitt game had to help seal our fate.

But like most of the cool aid nation, they hated Saban, he was a dick and per the cool aid drinkers Miles has performed better. To conclude on, Saban didn't have two bentleys in his driveway when he arrived here in December of 1999.

we don't have the type of coaches who develope great players, they recruit them but we see no improvement, other schools would kill for the raw talent that we have, but here it becomes stale talent

Ark is improving and I think we witnessed that last week. They will lose tomorrow, but coming into Tiger stadium in November, I just don't like where we are catching them. Both coaches imo are better gameday coaches than Miles. Nutt kinda haves Miles number as of late.

LSU is a "perilloux" away from an NC.

That excuse works for one year, not two. We had a year to get someone ready for 2009. We wasted that year. Inexcusable.
quote:

Unfortunately we don't have a QB like that at the moment

Why not? Why do some teams have one and we don't?
quote:

LSU is destined for a 9-3 season.

For a two-year combined record of 17-8. Decent at best. Nowhere close to good. How can Florida and Alabama have great seasons in consecutive years? How can Florida be headed to its third national championship in four years? How did Alabama lose its QB from last year and come back even better this year?

Losses and mediocre seasons are not supernatural events that simply occur beyond the control of the people running the program. They are the result of not performing as well as the competition.

When Florida fans have to wonder why they've gone two years in a row with shitty quarterbacking, with no end in sight, and why they are no longer an elite program in the SEC, let alone the nation, then you'll have an argument. Of course, when that happens at Florida, coaches get fired. That's why it doesn't happen often...

...at Florida.
quote:

You people act like we should win an NC every year.

And here is the ultimate stupidity from the apologists. This idiotic argument rests on the ridiculous claim that there is no middle ground between winning a national championship and not even finishing in the fricking top 25. Yes, you can miss out on a national championship sometimes, like USC has several years in a row now, but that doesn't mean you have to go 7-5 and wind up in the damned Peach Bowl...

...twice in a row.

He put a large dent in it last year... but otherwise they're still in pretty decent condition.

You're right. It was. But why don't you place the blame on the Auburn refs and Russell's 3 INT game against Florida where it belongs.

Keep in mind we had some serious football gods on our side in 07

Keep in mind that those same football gods were limping through most of the year.

I don't hate Saban. I have great admiration for him for bringing us out of the Dark Ages. And FWIW, I try not to compare the two coaches at all because they have completely different styles and completely different strengths and weaknesses. But I will do so whenever someone unabashedly slams into Miles because he is the current head coach and I have faith in him until he proves that it's unwarranted. Thus far, he has not done so.

Which kinda proves my point. the level of competition is different in the college football landscape from conference to conference. Which is why I have been screaming for a playoff.

While I agree with you and was very impressed with how Arkansas was able to reign in Auburn's Offense for the first half of that game, it's not as if our own team isn't improving. Arkansas's record would probably be much better had they not faced such competition, but I like our talent, our coach, and our atmosphere.
