did i see the game is early? you will have tons of options sat evening but downtown is going to be an absolute madhouse. you're going to laugh at the hot-tub busses running around downtown. every other vehicle will be some kind of bus with middle aged women whooping and hollering.
do you have a car? are you planning to uber?

a friend's house in Bellevue

I live 5 minutes from the Hattie B's on Charlotte Pike... the wait is rarely more than a few minutes at this location.

I'm not too familiar with the hot chicken availabilies in Bellevue, but assuming the game is at 6:00, head straight to Hattie B's in West Nashville (Charlotte Ave) at 11 AM. The line should be manageable, and it's on the way(ish) to Vanderbilt.

If you are driving to the game and looking for BBQ, stop in Memphis on the way there or home. Nashville is getting better, but besides one article in a mag no one cares about, they still aren’t in the same class.
If you want can’t miss Central BBQ, The BBQ Shop or The Germantown Commissary. I’ve taken many visitors to all three and never had a complaint. I’ve had many say they were the best they ever had.
I’m not the worlds biggest fan of Memphis Barbecue (the restaurant, not in general), but the owner is a former BBQ champ and it’s right off I-55 in Southaven, MS, which is right on the way to Nashville from LA. If you take I-269 to bypass Memphis traffic, it’s still not far out of the way. It’s definitely the most convenient and it is very good. We all have our favorites here. It’s just not at the top of my list.
Everything else on the Nashville lists above is very good.

Quick question about ticket sales:
I was planning on waiting until the day of the game to buy tickets from someone off the street. The lowest price in Stubb Hubb right now is $75 a pop and I just cant imagine Vandy tickets being that high the day of the game or the satdium selling out... should I just go ahead and buy now or stick with my plan? I talked to someone whoe went to the UGA/Vandy game and said the cheapest they found was $120

this year could be different but in the past i've never had a problem getting cheap tickets to a vandy game off the street.
lots of old men in oldsmobiles in the vandy parking lots with extras.

My wife was praying the car would still be there when the uber dropped us off Sunday morning.
Since this was my buddy's 30th birthday we were some of those yahoos riding a fire truck around town for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon. We had a blast.

This is so very true. I used to like going there for work but I’m glad I don’t have to anymore. It’s a fun place, but it tipped the scales the wrong way a few years ago. Now you need to be cool with traffic somewhere between Atlanta and LA and paying the proverbial cool tax everywhere. That’s fine and all for a trip or game, but it sucks when you are trying to make money on work.
