I haven't see the stats for OSU for top 10 teams and BCS games in the last few years but I'm sure they're nothing to write home about. Regardless of what they are, how is this related to which program is better? We play in a better conference, have more NCs in the recent past and own head to head. This is all I've been saying.

And that's my point. You're a hypocrite. You're using the past year (and two years ago) for Bama, yet you won't for Ohio State?

I'm using Bama's entire body of work the last few yrs as I am Ohio State's. I did put Ohio State as a maybe on my list (if you read the OP). I just think LSU is better.

But it isn't about the past decade, it's about today. Yes, the past decade can play a role (for example, I'd still say that even though Oregon's been better the past few years than LSU, LSU had enough of a gap this decade that they're still the better "program" today). But when you have a program as close as OSU's been to LSU this decade, and in the most recent years, we've been clearly better, not close, I don't know how you can't say that today we're not the better program. I guess that's my point.

2005: Miami/Alabama/Tennesse
2004: Georgia
2003: Oklahoma/Georgia/Georgia
2002: Texas/Alabama

LSU has been a better team a few yrs. OSU has been a better team others. Head to head, LSU has been better in a conference OSU has struggled to beat in the recent past. I give the edge to LSU. It's my opinion - if you aren't going to accept head to head as a stat, then I don't see why any other stat or fact should even be considered.

I guess we have a difference on what this thread is asking. A better team this decade? Yes, it's LSU. I'm not disputing that. A better program today (i.e. which program is in a better state right now, at this current time), I say it's Ohio State.

#3.

07' Florida is a good example of why you count top 10 opponents at the end of the season after all the games are played. Florida finished 9-4 that year and it was their combination of losses that caused them to be reanked where they were. The loss to LSU was not the only factor as siliconvalley would have us all believe. Florida just wasn't a very good team in 2007.

Fair enough.

Just understand that your opinion seems to be in the minority on this, an LSU board.

List just proves LSU has not played that many more Top 10 teams. If he uses end of the year ranking or ranking from when they played Ohio State is right there with them.

In this thread as I stated earlier if you are discussing All-Time I would have Ohio State ahead of LSU, if you are talking past 10 years I would have LSU higher, if you talking current state of program today I would go with Ohio State.

That's probably because it's right and not based on shooting from the hip.

I think Ohio State and LSU are two programs in similar situations. Both have good coaches who are conservative guys but have received criticism for recent performance in big games (also both are from Ohio). Both are in states with tremendous high school talent. Both programs expect championship contention on a consistent basis. I think the one thing that separates Ohio State from LSU is a more stable coaching situation in Columbus, which is mostly due to the Buckeyes success over Michigan since 2001.

Ohio State has a much greater chance of going to the BCS Title game next season.

I find it interesting that outside of their two championship seasons LSU had a 2-13 record against top 10 teams in the last decade. I think I'd have to reevaluate their standing in the last decade when looking at this data.

Please note that I'd still rank LSU ahead of Ohio State in the last decade primarily because of two national championships but they would drop in regards to Texas, USC and Florida IMO. Perhaps out of the top 5 programs in the last decade IMO.

In the past few yrs, we have won when it has mattered the most and that's in the NC games. OSU has pretty much stunk it up on the big stage. In our last 2 down years, all our losses except one have come in the best conference in football. I can only speculate how OSU would do in the same conference based on recent history but that would be pure speculation.

I believe the opposite of what you are saying. OSU is a better team right now but LSU is a better program based on recent history.

I understand the point you're trying to hammer home but disregarding 2-13 in 8 of 10 years against top flight opponents is interesting to say the least. While LSU has certainly had higher peaks their lows have been at least as low. 2-13 against the top 10 in those 8 years certainly qualifies as "stinking it up on the big stage". Unless those games aren't "big stage" games in your opinion.

And I understand your need to keep diverting from the obvious to a murky stat which really tells us nothing about which program is better. What does tell us? The number of NCs, the head to head record and OSUs resounding defeat, OSU's propensity to choke in big games and their inablity to beat teams out of the conference where LSU loses pretty much all its games.

Now you're resorting to being nonsensical. I've presented facts and stats. You have not. Instead you are once again pointing to 1 game in the decade to make your determination. A game that occurred 3 seasons ago. Great use of logic there.

As for "big" games it's been proven that 9-11 > 7-13. In the decade LSU lost (choked) more times that Ohio State in "big" games. So, by your own logic LSU is a bigger loser than Ohio State. Comical.
