If we can't do it in the dome we don't deserve to win

I can only remember one rematch in which LSU football was involved in a bowl game. That was with Ole Miss in New Year's Day Sugar Bowl 1960. We lost that one 21-0. Since we already lost our first rematch, then we should be on the good side of that 62% for the next one.

9/29/2001 LSU @ UT, L 18-26
12/8/2001 LSU/UT @ ATL, W 31-20, UT was ranked #2
FSU beat UF during the regular season, then was blown out by UF in the MNC game years ago.
With two closely matched teams anything can happen, ergo I hate rematches/double jeopardy for the initial victor. You could point to LSU's two wins over UGA in 2003, but the win at BR was a nailbiter to the end and LSU had improved more than UGA over the last half of 2003. I don't think there has been much change in LSU/Bama's capabilities since 11/5, LSU's passing game remains very pedestrian.

That is what Les wants bama to think. Did you see those passes JJ threw in the first half of the SECCG? Nobody throws that bad. T-Bob couldn't throw that bad. Passing game gonna be our secret weapon.

Really? Hilliard played 2 plays at FB and blue didn't play...they are probably our 2 best rb's currently. And we have a new starting qb who won't split snaps at practice.

So LSU lost on the road, and then won at a neutral site.
Florida lost AT FSU in 1996 then won at a neutral site.
The more interesting stat would be the record of the teams that have won on the road and played that same team in a rematch. My guess is those numbers in general will favor the road team winning the first game.
Nebraska/UW last year had more to do with Nebraska's team not giving a shite about being in the Holiday Bowl and it being UW's first bowl in like 5 years.
I'd think LSU players will take the NC game a little more seriously than Nebraska players took that game.

For some reason I feel this game will be a little more personal than the last game. Both teams at the first meeting were regarded as good with LSU as the slight underdog playing at Bama. After having proven themselves with a win, it is a hugh disrespect to keep saying Bama is the better team. (Esp. when you start comparing schedules and big games played in.)

Nah, my not very well made point is that psychologically/subconsciously it can be harder for the initial victor to regain the focus in a rematch after the initial win. After being up early UT had no business losing that game as they had the better athletes. Saban even threw in a failed 4th down conversion in the first half and Davey/Toefield were out due to injury by halfway through the 2ndQ, and Mauck could not hit the broadside of a barn passing.

Yes, I'd been thinking about that one too. It was obvious that Ole Miss was sky high for that rematch and LSU was flat.
There is a big difference with this game though. The game was not for a national championship for either team. Also, a bowl just down the road didn't even have the appeal of say, the Orange Bowl. Had LSU had equal motivation, I'm sure the game would have been closer, though I don't know what the outcome would have been.
I think this time with the NC being on the line, it prevents Bama from gaining the psychological edge of being the team with something to prove. LSU has the NC as their season long goal, and being viewed as inferior to Bama by virtually all the media types adds further motivation.

1997 LSU lost to Notre Dame in BR, then beat ND a month later in the Independence Bowl

I'm not saying LSU won't win, just that I hate rematches. I love Hilliard, but that doesn't negate the fact that the passing game is still lackluster and that JJ was taking 70% of practice snaps for UGA and you see how that worked out. Just imagine if he hit RR in-stride on that pass and LSU jumped out 7-0 to begin the game, then UGA may have gotten rolled in the 1stQ.

That has nothing to do with this game though. LSU's team came in on fire and struggled mightily early on in the season.
LSU lost AT Tennessee that year. LSU won at Bama this year.
LSU will take Bama seriously, and UT didn't take LSU seriously.
The injuries are what sparked LSU that game. Tennessee had no idea how to handle Mauck's running threat because they had no idea he'd have a shot in hell of getting into the game. This is an entirely different scenario.
