The always needed disclaimer, if you don't care about WB, fine move on, some of us do and root for all LSU sports to be competitive or better

alas our women's program has gone from final fours to bottom 4's in SEC..
FWIW tonight vs a solid Arkansas team looks to be must win. With road games at KY, Miss St and A&M left, a loss tonight almost assures a losing SEC record and barring a win in SEC tourney (lol good luck with that), we 100% miss NCAA's and after 8 years NF SEC mark will basically be .500. Certainly not worth the 700,000+ we pay her.

Arkansas hired a great coach. Mike Neighbors is a Hog alum who built the program at Washington and took them to their first ever Final Four. His salary is $600,000 per year. He had to pay a $1 million buyout to Washington to return to his alma mater. He's a great recruiter. They are coming on this year and this is going to be a tougher game than originally thought.

She appeared to be a grand slam hire at the time, but you need to be able to admit that sometimes "grand slams" don't pan out as expected.

She has not panned out as expected.

I absolutely don’t blame the hire when made. On paper, it was a great hire. It clearly hasn’t worked though and her firing is long overdue.

She should have been let go after last season.

As pointed out, she turned a perennial Final4 program into a Bottom4/bubble program. It’s really laughable at this point that she is still employed by LSU.

Why do we continue to drag this experiment out? She has been a massive failure. Over-paid is an understatement. Johnny Jones esque.

As was Missouri, Arkansas figures to be a good matchup for us. Mitchell and Aifuwa should DOMINATE the paint. Arkansas likes to run and gun and shoot 3's. If we can keep them from going off for like 12-14 3's, we should be fine.

With a win, we are 5-5 in the league and only 1 game out of 4th.

Very much like the men, the women have 3 teams at the top that have separated themselves....then a bunch of teams right in the middle around .500, then a couple really bad teams at the bottom.

I think we need 9-7 to get to the NCAA's....or 8-8 and a couple wins at the SEC-T.

The path to 9-7 is difficult. We need to win tonight for sure.

Then, the remaining 6 games are:

at A&M
at Vandy
Florida
at Kentucky
at Miss. St.
Auburn.

Getting 4 of those will be tough. We MUST beat Florida and Vandy. They are awful. We aren't beating Mississippi State. Auburn at home is also a must. And we need to figure out a way to get 1 of the 2 of A&M and Kentucky.

Our RPI is currently 56. That has to go up. Unfortunately, Florida and Vandy are so bad that they are 208 and 172, respectively....so beating them will do ZERO to help us.

Arkansas is 72
Kentucky is 32. That loss to them at home is haunting us. Would have been a great win.
Texas A&M is 18.
Auburn is 53.

Mississippi State is 7...so that arse-kicking that they will give us will at least help our strength of schedule.

Contrary to many here, I think this team can be pretty good with the right matchup as long as they keep their head out of their arse. They played very well vs. Missouri.

Thanks LSUgrad. as always good stuff, point well taken...we have played well at times and certainly much better than bottom of sec, but I'm beyond tired of being mediocre..if we go 7-9 or worse in sec would you agree she needs to go?

I don't totally disagree with all of the criticism of her.....but get the facts straight.

She did NOT inherit a Final Four program. She inherited a program that didn't make the tournament in Chancellor's last year.

Has she been a bit of a disappointment overall? Yes. But not for "inheriting a Final Four program and burning it down"

After making the NCAA Tournament for the 6th time in 7 years?

Yeah, I am pissed that we haven't even won a game in the tournament in 4 years...but it isn't as bad as some of you make it out to be.

I am all for giving her a chance next year with most of this roster returning, plus 3 very good recruits coming in. If we are still stuck in the mud after next year, then maybe its time to pull the plug

I mean....it's a tough call.

I am impressed with the recruits that have signed for next year. I have never had a problem with her coaching style....I think she is a very good coach. Most have argued (with validity) that recruiting has been her shortcoming.

I would like to see how good we are next year with Pointer, Mitchell, Aifuwa, the 3 newcomers, and Thomas, the transfer from Florida...along with Monet Jones, who sat out this year. There is enough talent next year to be good.

But if she misses the tournament this year...Alleva as the ammo to pull the trigger (if he even gives a shite anymore). He might be too lazy to be bothered with a coaching search.

100% disagree, but hey that's what these boards are for. If she goes 7-9 or worse I think it wont matter..she'll be toast..8-8 and no NCAA likely the same IMHO

I literally think the wildcard here is what is going through Alleva's head...and nobody knows the answer to that. Fargas is under contract now for a few more years....but we know that contracts are made to be broken.

Unless this totally bottoms out the next 3 weeks, we will be at least on the bubble for the tournament. In her favor, the future looks brighter due to what the roster looks like next year. If she were losing a bunch of seniors, then it would be different.

I think it depends on Alleva's mood, to be totally honest.

agreed, also think Miriam S has a major role in this. With a $200,000? buyout not a big money issue... Joe has not tended to be quick on the trigger and basically in non revenue sports has I think only fired (or "moved" out) only coaches at the very bottom- w golf, swimming, women's tennis... and we certainly have our share of long tenured mediocre coaches, which is not all bad in my eyes, it's just WB has so much potential

You still didn't answer the question about why you made your first post.

I'm just curious about the psychology of someone clicking on a thread with full knowledge of the topic just to say that topic sucks.
