To Faulk/Collins?

This isn't (yet) the best group of RBs ever.

At this point I don't think you could call any group on this team the best ever.

I think the game would be close but the 06 team had a huge qb and WR advantage and would definitely score some.
Dude, they struggled against 4-8 Ole Piss.
'06 blew out some crap teams, but vs the 5 ranked teams they faced, 2 were losses and 2 were pretty close contests (<5pts).
Maybe the W vs ND looked impressive, but we all knew they were posers.

2011 LSU faced 8 ranked teams and skulldrug every one, save Bama and maybe MSU (only by 13pts).

Don't be hasty! Wait until the season ends before pasting this honor on any team.

I think 1999 was the best team ever. Had Hal Hunter coached all year, we would have won the BCS
I agree with this theme. There were a lot of NFL players from those late 90's teams that were only mediocre under DiNardo. Saban turned them into SEC Champions.

Dude look at the players on the 06 team and the 11 team. I think the 11 team was good to great at all but two positions and did a good job at covering those deficiencies (QB,LB). The 06 had only one real weakness and was more of not jelling in the running game but their rb's definitely not at level of 11. In 06 LSU lost to the national champion Florida and a very good Auburn team who was up and down as well.

As far as by position
QB - 06 by a ton
RB - 11 big advantage
OL - push
DL - slight edge to 11 but 06 was very good also (Dorsey, Tyson)
LB - Big edge 06
CB - edge 11
Safeties - edge 06 LaRon was the best out of 4 very good safeties though Reid could surpass him in 12.

11 would not just power run over 06's defense and I seriously doubt JJ would be any threat at all passing versus 06 secondary.

I agree 11 secondary and pass rush would bother JaMarcus but with Bowe, Davis,Early and LaFell I think they would make some plays also.

I agree with the original poster. Sure, there have been more talented groups(QB,LB,etc.) on past teams but the original post was discussing the OVERALL team talent and in my humble opinion(IMHO for rantards with 100K+ posts), this is best overall team ever fielded at LSU. Look at the preseason All-SEC teams and 2013 1st round draft projections. There have never been that many Tigers on those lists.

Well just take a look at the Preseason All-SEC Team. 11 Tigers on there and 7 FIRST Teamers! That has to be a record high for us. I know all this means nothing at this point but it's nice to see us getting this much preseason love.

I agree 2012 could be the most talented and successful LSU team ever. But I do think before we crown them they should play a few games at least and probably an entire season and see how things shake out.

Very talented team and I do hope they turn out the best.

Anyone who says any of the currents backs are as good or better than Collins and Faulk are probably younger than 25.

That's what I was thinking.

I still think 2006 looked better on paper.

I'll go one further. If Collins stays home with some KY instead of going to that coed's bedroom, Dinardo may have lasted another year or two; which means Saban would have gone to Notre Dame or Clemson or who knows where..........

And you may be right, although offense wasn't Gerry's problem.

This is all true. 2006 was so impressive physically and on paper, yet struggled at times. Its why I deem 2006 a letdown season despite the sugar bowl. 2006 SHOULD be able to handle 2011 but games aren't played on paper.

Your not factoring in JJ versus a top defense.2006 was a very good defense and 2011 JJ had what 25 yards passing in the CC and what 50 something in the BCS. No way JJ throws on the 2006 D and 2006 with Dorsey Tyson Jackson Darry Beckwith and Ali H is not getting beat by a one dimensional team.

I've gone to LSU games since 1966....thats 46 years. Last years team was the best I've ever seen....hands down! Biggest weakness was quarterback.

This years team may be as good or better...talent is everywhere...we'll see

I agree tiger-kev. We were a qb away from being in the discussion for one of the greatest college football teams of all time. Especially after beating what 7-8 ranked teams? Most of which were blowouts.
