Unfortunately, I think this would not be one of our best list, but it dawned on me that in terms of overall resume upon arriving at LSU as a QB…. Jayden Daniels is essentially one of the highest overall “star rating” on paper guys to suit up for the Tigers. Not a lot of depth on this list, but here’s my top 10 in terms of best QB’s at time of signing or transfer.

1. Josh Booty - 5 star- I believe he was #1 overall recruit on some lists.

2a. Ryan Perilloux -5 star- #1 dual threat, etc. Fwiw, I didn’t ever see what everyone else saw with this dude in terms of film.

2b. Russell Shepard - 5 Star- #1 dual threat, etc. Sick high school highlights. Thanks Les!

4. Jamarcus Russell- 5 star stud. #1 pick, etc but don’t recall him being rated as high as those above him.

5. Walker Howard - high 4 star, 5 star prior to an injury. Looking forward to watching this stud in a year or two.

6. Jayden Daniels - 4 star stud, top dual threat on several list, backed up by good 1st year at ASU. 2nd year fall off drops him slightly, but his overall resume upon arrival on campus makes him deserving of this spot as high level recruit backed up with 2 years of major college experience.

7. Brandon Harris - 4 or 5 star on most lists - same as Jayden essentially but without the college experience so I put him one spot below.

8. Joe Burrow - lowish 4 star, but at top college program. veteran, but no film on playing experience. I was higher on him personally and predicted he’d win a heisman if we’re being honest, but objectively this is where he belongs or possibly one higher.

9. Zach Mettenberger - similar to Joe B in terms of playing resume but earlier in eligibility and with a bit of a reputation issue.

10. Rohan Davey - High 4 star stud.

Honorable Mention
Flynn/Nuss/Mauck/Etling/Lee/Jefferson/J.Howard - splitting hairs. These are all close.

Agreed? Suprised to see how high Daniels is on list?

Don’t know how you could miss it.

In the right system this guy was going to be right there with Tebow as the best in the SEC in 08/09.

The frequency with which you peppered that post with the word stud is unsettling

Such a bad take

Russell Shepard belongs somewhere on this list. He was the #3 athlete in his class and came to LSU over Texas specifically because he thought he would get a shot to play QB here.

Of course Miles was full of shite and pretty much wasted his talent, even though he really wasn’t a QB. But this thread is about ratings and he was up there.

Zach Lee and Gunner Keil were higher rated than several you mentioned.

Both made it to campus and used a scholarship.

Ryan11 was already in the right system, he just needed not to be a frickup off the field. We had everything in place for him to be super successful in 08.

Herb Tyler wasn’t highly rated. He was barely a take while the program was down. This list is based on how they were rated when we got them.

You must have seen a different tape than what I saw. Without mentioning the pressure associated with your first ever college start being the SEC championship against Tennessee, he was throwing darts with D-linemen in his face, bearing down on him. Perilloux had the talent to be a star. It would have been fun to see him start for an entire season.

Then you shouldn’t ever act like you know what you are talking about. Holy shite this just made you look dumb. That dude was as naturally gifted a qb as anyone I’ve ever seen.

Weren’t his high school stats like otherworldly?

I responded before I saw this. You never saw it on film with RP, but praise the highlights of a kid who was never going to be a good enough passer to play qb at a higher level, and act like Miles ruined him somehow.

Gunner Kiel never made it to campus, nor did he use an LSU football scholarship.

Perrilloux had a start against a rent a win (Middle Tennessee St.) earlier in the year when Flynn first had the high ankle sprain.

Just as a point of reference, none of the major recruiting sites were in operation when Davey and Booty where being recruited. And Booty was not the #1 Qb according to the football magazines which had recruiting rankings (Lindys. Athlon, etc.) the consensus number one QB that year was Payton Manning.

I remember them being 1 and 1A, depending on which publications you looked at. And Booty was considered the more physically gifted of the two, Manning the more intellectually prepped.

Scoob,

found this old Tom Lemming spreadsheet on the web. Covers 1990 to 2005 (see tabs at bottom). He had Booty over Manning.

Worth nothing considering as a backup he came in and won the MVP of the SEC championship game.

I hate threads like this. It's doesn't matter how many pretend internet stars they had. Get on campus and best man plays.

Terrace Marshall was a 5* #1 WR in the county

Justin Jefferson was a 2*/3* and on the same team he was the better WR and will go down as one of the greatest WR in LSU history

Kardell House of Pancakes Thomas was a 5* and fell but still stayed a 4* top 100 player.

Would you want him or 2*/3* Juco Damien Lewis blocking this year?
