I'm all out of schlitz here. I'll say this. If Title IX requires that several men's programs be cut because of football, while not designating football a men's sport, then it's bullshite. I get that, practically speaking, men will take up all of those scholarships, but I object as a matter of principle.
Cheerleading is for women. Jams and preserves are for women. Football is for men.--SEC guy

I thought she doesn't have the ability considering her soccer career.

The NCAA dubs football a men's sport
they just don't always enforce it as such

Its the ability to receive a scholarship not the actual act of being rewarded one that is the issue.
If she is allowed to tryout/play (I DONT have a problem with either)then she is allowed a scholarship should she earn one.
Generally speaking.

To sum this all up:
Title IX still sucks (I think 90% of us can agree on that)
Football is a man's sport, up until the point that a woman wants to and is capable of playing
Title IX still kills men's sports over this
And finally, women's baseball has suddenly been instated as a NCAA sport for the sake of poo's arguement
I kid, I kid

I don't want to read every page of this thread, but I believe Mo Isom should be allowed to try out, since what is the difference between LSU in 2012 & New Mexico in 2003, when Katie Hnida participated in some games for the University of New Mexico, also as a kicker.
And I am wondering if there have been any interviews or quotes from Hairston, Alleman, or any of the LSU coaches about this?

I was suggesting there is not replacement for baseball at the NCAA collegiate level for women, because that sport would be NCAA women's college baseball...which you won't find anywhere

Incredible Title IX analysis
Anyone hear about her tryout today?

I would say you'll lose that argument 100 times of out 100...outside of a few specifics the sports are the same.

I think practice was set for 4pm today. Is that when a tryout would happen?

tell that softball pitcher that if she wants to pitch in baseball she better learn how to do it overhand, from significantly farther, at a significantly faster speed, using a significantly smaller ball
I'm sure she will find batting very easy to adapt to as well

But LSU was compliant with Title IX up to this date then they had equal opportunities for male and female athletes.
I don't think this is a hard test as far as number of sports is concerned, or even the exact scholarship numbers at any one point in time...
In fact, the opportunity for a woman to try out for football has always been there, this isn't something new...

not sure what any of that has to do with equal opportunities for both sexes to play a sport that involves a ball, bat, glove, 3 outs per inning, etc.

You are arguing with a wall about this. He can't comprehend that softball is baseball for women. Virtually every women's sport that has a men's alternative have slightly different rules. Or even drastic ones, but the premise is the same.

seeing as how they are different sports, I don't think telling a sex that has grown up playing another sport and learning the skill set and training for that sport that they have to play another sport, would find the fact that both use gloves and a bat and have 3 outs an inning that comforting
