The timing of the MLB draft is absolutely asinine. It creates an unfair distraction for college players and coaches in the postseason. I don't understand why MLB can't wait a little longer and push back the draft until after the CWS is over.

It used to be in the MIDDLE of the CWS.
This is better.

Heard on talk radio the other day that MLB tried working with the NCAA on this issue and the NCAA wouldn't cooperate.

The MLB couldn't care less about the college baseball season. I agree it sucks, but the college baseball season won't be over for another 3 weeks. They'd rather get the high school, JUCO, and college players done playing to the minors to start playing rather than accommodate the probably 50 or fewer players that will be playing pro ball this year from the 16 college teams still playing. I agree it sucks for the teams still playing to have to deal with this, but it is what it is.

well, that's because the CWS would have already started by now back years ago before the super regionals were a thing and the season began earlier. For instance, we won the national title in 1997 on June 7. College baseball extended the season several weeks. Why should the MLB sacrifice a month of development for the hundreds of players not playing college or high school ball currently?

If it just started in Tuesday it wouldn’t be that bad. Tuesday Wednesday Thursday that way you avoid the games from regionals that are on Monday. I don’t think the MLB is going to move the draft back three weeks just to accommodate maybe 1 percent of the draft class.

MLB doesn’t care about college baseball any more than the NBA cares about college basketball with the one-year rule. The pro leagues will always do what’s best for them. Anything else that works out well for anyone else is a happy coincidence.

What does this even mean? I mean, 1) Why would MLB care? but 2) what does “working with them” even look like?

The MLB now wants to play victim? They are purely the only pro entity who has completely separated themselves from the NCAA. It's no secret that the MLB has done nothing but attempt to dwarf college baseball into nothing instead of working together.

this is incorrect regarding the NBA and college basketball. The one year rule is actually proof.

I don't know enough about it to say. It was on XM84 the college sports channel. One of the hosts was ranting about how bad he trashed the MLB in the past over it but recently did more research. He apologized to the MLB and said it was the NCAA that wouldn't even come to the table to try to work something out.

Why should MLB care? The HS season is well over. MLB only cares about getting kids playing in their system as soon as possible. The cws keeps getting pushed back.

How would the NCAA cooperate? Did they want them to move eliminate the Super Regionals & move up the CWS a week?
