As for LSU, I'm still perplexed as to how it got itself in this predicament at the QB position and didn't have another QB ready to step in, especially when you have the transfer portal available.

No Nuss class QB will wait for a couple of years to play behind someone these days. They will transfer out somewhere else and play right a way and get paid doing it.

No program has depth these days and will not until, some schools ( possibly Texas and Texas A&M ) have the deep pockets to pay a back up 5 mil a year to ride the bench.

Nuss must be willing to run. I think he can do it reasonably well but he has to make up his mind to run when running lane open and DB's have their back to the play.

Those are all the same caliber guys ?

OK, well let's look at all the upperclassmen returning QBs for LSU over the past quarter-century:

2001: Rohan, SEC, 10 Ws
2003: Mauk, NC, 13 Ws
2006: Russell, 11 Ws
2007: Flynn, NC 12 Ws
2011, Lee/Jefferson SEC, 13 Ws
2013, Mett, 10 Ws
2017, Etling, 9 Ws
2019, JB, NC, All the W's
2023, JD, 10 W's

You can't really see the importance of returning a NFL caliber starting QB?

So the idea is we can go plop in the portal and guarantee an upgrade at replacing our veteran QB, but we have no possibility of doing the same in the portal at offensive line in the portal and with player development?

You're missing the point! I love Nuss, but his inability to run the ball is a huge problem. Having a veteran QB that can't run, but can pass really well would be great, if LSU had a great OL, a great running game and a veteran receiver group returning, but we have none of that. Besides Nuss, we have a stud RB in Durham that will be running behind a completely new OL and a great receiver in Anderson, but that's it.

Listen, I love Nuss, but the facts are the facts. I would love to have a versatile QB that was a decent passer, but a very good runner. Having a QB that can only pass, plays right into the hands of the opposing defense and we all saw how that played out this year!
