I dont think Minter will quite have Shep's range right away, but i think by the time he leaves he can be just as good. He's a prototypical MLB

Leadership wise obviously quite a dip regardless of who takes Shep's spot. Baker will be the leader, at least with his play on the field which can be dynamic. He will be All SEC next season IMO. Minter, Barrow,Maclin, Jones, and Welter are a pretty talented group to draw from so the overall LB play should not be a severe drop, if any. You never know when someone's light will just come on as Shep's seemed to his junior season.

It'll be a pretty big drop off. We're going to miss Kelvin big time.

Physically, Minter is as talented as any linebacker we have.

Mentally, it would be tough for him to be on Sheppard's level. Shep was the captain of our defense. He was the guy who always had us in the right play.

We'll miss that. Minter can learn, no doubt. Let's hope he comes along quickly because the team will be depending on him.

In the meantime, I fully expect Brandon Taylor to take over the role of captain of the D.

maclin is to small to play end. so is mingo. They will get dominated against the run they should have stayed at lb

I'm guessing you're not a fan of Mingo's pass rushing abilities.

I'm not too worried about the LSU D next season. I just want them to play the Aggies in the Cotton Bowl a hell of a lot better than they played the Aubies and Hogs.

Chavis and his staff will field a competent, confident, aggressive defense next season, bet on it.

I am a fan of pass rush abilities but the guy is 230 maybe he is to small for DE.

Minter will be stronger than Shep

Shep has range and leadership qualities, but he regularly got pushed back when he met RBs and QBs in the hole. Minter should be much better stuffing the inside

I'd like to see coaches get some work with Minter in the middle in the Cotton Bowl, with Shep on the outside (which is where he'll play in the pros any way)... this would get Francois off the field who I think is in jeopardy of losing his job in 2011 any way

chavis is the best LB coach in the country

if minter, or whomever else, has talent and drive, they will be a good player
