Just so I can keep up. Who was the last perfect QB to play at LSU?

No one has been perfect. Who was the last one to play better than Jefferson? Matt Flynn. Russell was better. Mauck was better. Davey was better.

Jefferson is better than Andrew Hatch and I feel like he was better than Randall (though Randall has lots of bad memories for me). Lee in 2008 was not better than Jefferson for different reasons. I'm not a pro-Lee, anti-Jefferson guy.

I am just a fan who wants to see one of these guys step up and not waste our talent on offense this year.

If we get GOOD QB play, we'll be a top 40 offense. If we get GREAT QB play this could be a special season. Even if every lineman plays at their current level.

Well, in all honesty, I disregard anything Miles says to the media - good or bad. So no reason to discriminate here.

And just to keep the record clear, what coach do you believe entirely?

So, he "has to" do these things, but is he?...

Guess not. At least not yet. So, was there any good news?...

I think he is very accepting of his role

Really? Accepting of his role as opposed to what? Demanding a position change? Quitting the team? So far, not one single indication that he IS doing what he HAS to do

It could very well be that JJ has grown into the role... let's say adequately for now. If that were the case, would it have been better for Miles to say "JJ is playing up to par now"? Maybe, maybe not. There is always room for improvement, so unless he's evolved to the level of Drew Brees/Payton Manning/Brett Favre/Johnny Unitas, then I don't have an issue with Miles saying he's still developing. I wouldn't bet any money that JJ will be the best QB in the SEC West, but I suspect he will have improved. So, I'm leaning towards those who say you're reading a little too much into Miles' statements. They are simply too ambiguous.

And "accepting his role", imo, mearly means he recognizes he has work to do and is owning up to it... and putting in the necessary work to deserve to be the starter.

Regarding Lee, all that can be reasonably taken from his statements is that he thinks JJ is further along than Lee.

I reckon it will start sorting out in about three weeks... three very long weeks.

Compare just their first 15 games, you'll be shocked.

This time next year we can compare the next 14.

I am skeptical of JJ's leadership, foresight and vision on the field. In contrast, nothing has been said regarding JJ or J Lee compared to Crowton's superlatives about Z Lee's knowledge of the sport & position, understanding of the plays, vision on the field, and real time ability to know where to put the ball as an incoming freshman who actually studied prior to arriving at LSU. Going on three years and I have yet to hear these qualities applied to the Junior QB's.

And to be clear, I think JJ has the physical tools to be as good as any of these guys. His combo of size, arm strength and decent speed compares favorably with all of these guys save Russell (pre-flame out).

I also think he's decently smart. Some on here throw out the "can't read defenses" schtick. Not true. In the Capital One Bowl, he totally read the safety on the slant to LaFell for the TD and (while I can't be sure) I even think he checked down on that play pre-snap to go to LaFell.

I think it is all attitude with JJ. He doesn't appear to be a natural leader. He's not very aggressive and I reall think he watched what happened to Lee in 2008 and it scared the shite out of him. Like I said in an earlier post in this thread: the one game where he looked pissed and aggressive was Auburn and he turned in his best performance as a Tiger that night.

Of the teams I follow? Mike Singletary. Says it like it is. Saban was pretty good about it and called out QB play/our lack of identity. There are plenty of coaches out there who I believe when they talk to the media. Let me know if you have any other questions you would like answered on the record.

Neither Mauch nor Flynn were great passers and far from perfect but both knew how to play within himself and won a championship. I smart player knows what he can do but more importantly what he can not do.And good coaches know it too. You take the talent the QB has, inperfections included. Jefferson or Lee don't have to be all Heisman QB's, just play with in their talent nd the system.

Flynn was a pretty good passer when not injured. His arm bailed us out plenty of times.

I hope you are right.

But that is sort of my point. My concern is not what JJ could become. I worry he's not progressing.

Take Matt Mauck for example. He only started 20 games at LSU. He played the first 6 games of 2002 and did OK. He played all of 2003 and won the title. Mauck is a better runner but no one would argue he was a great passer. Yet in 03 he had a higher completion percentage than Jefferson and Mauck did actually throw a few passes downfield. Mauck would throw a pick or two--JJ has him on that but he also threw for 28 TDs (and he's not even that good of a passer!). He was a leader and did what he had to to get his team to win. Right now JJ does what he needs to to not turn the ball over. Completely F'd up approach to offense.

I really want to see this kid turn it around. Use his gifts and lead us to titles. But after 15 games, what have you seen to indicate the next 14 will be different?

Ok. Thanks for setting me straight. From now on I'll believe everything Saban says. He never lies. All that foolishness about him going to Alabama was just so much wind. The Dolphins are glad that he is still there.
And the next time he tell us that the Georgia Southern team presents problems for Alabama, I'll believe that too.
I am glad you cleared that up.

Completely agree. And I was just commenting on Mauck. As much as we don't think of him as a great passer, in 2003 he blew away JJ's stats. Higher completion percentage, more yards, more TDs. Yeah, he threw more picks. So what? He played aggressive, unlike Jordan. And he won us a national title.

I'll take Mauck over JJ any day of the week. I hope that by the end of this season, I retract that statement. I just have seen nothing to give me hope that I will.

To sum this up.
Miles uses loose language along with vague implications to answer questions regarding what is going on within HIS team.
It is not the media's, or general public's business as to what's going on within HIS team. Of course, he is required to answer these questions, but his answers are done out of the respect for his players and team as a whole. What do you expect him to say? "Jefferson will win the Heisman, or, Jefferson blows wiener" either way, he and his team would be harassed. This is the most professional way to handle this situation. Finding loop holes in what he "literally says" does nothing but state the obvious.
