the biggest risk he ever took was goin for the TD on 4th against UF. it was a big risk, but we were kicking a FG from the hash up close (which is hard in CFB) with a FG kicker who wasn't solidified, had we kicked to tie
plus UF's offense was pretty beastmode that night and all they'd need is a FG with enough time to get it
the next biggest risk was the AU pass in 2007, but from all accounts that was all crowton
miles HAD to go for those 4th downs against UF (before the one on the goaline). we were down and running out of time
i'm starting to realize, you just don't know very much about anything.
it's one thing to be critical when it is deserved. when you are not willing to give credit when it is deserved, it just show's your bias. therefore, you have no objective opinion.
p.s., Au 2008, miles kicked an on side kick at au. we got it, j. lee made the come back to win.
2009, he kicked an onside kick at ole miss. peterson had a toe on the line. therefore it didn't work. however, he tried
2005, he faked a punt out of his own endzone agains ariz. st.
2005, faked a punt against miami and executed it.
2007-faked a field goal agains u.s.c. e and executed it
2007-au last second score.
2007-florida he gave up the short field goal for going for it on forth down.
i'd say he's taken his share of risk.

well we've only "lost" 1 QB, who was a recruit
we just haven't really recruited many QBs lately
i'm going to wager a lot of fans' negativity also stems from a fear of horrible offense in 2011, 2012, and possibly 2013. that's the kind of dire straights we're in right now without some major change

i already said this
so basically over 5 years we have a few onside kicks and fakes, other than the play i listed
on the other hand, we have had countless examples of conservative play that have dominated our offensive identity while miles has been here. but yeah they're outweighed by a few fakes that likely meet the average of how many every team run

What do you think about this Mettenberger kid they're going after? I haven't really seen anything on him but i hear he's doing great in JUCO.

his press clippings are good, but a couple UGA people i know don't like him. i think some of this is sour grapes b/c they just like murray better (mainly b/c he's still at UGA)
here's the problem with met
a. JJ is miles' pet, and miles loves his pets
b. miles, i honestly believe, thinks we HAVE to have a mobile QB for this offense. met isn't that

well, nick saban is considered, and i believe the best, coach in the land. he dominates conservative play calling. 80% of all plays called at bama are run plays. which is a conservative call.
it's not the play calling, it's the execution of the play called. you put mallet on this team, you like gary crowton. his offense comes to life.
Miles hasn't done a very good job of identifying the proper qb to run his or crowton's offense. criticism of this is fair.
however, to discredit everything else is just blindly bashing a guy. it's silly, dumb, unfair, whatever you want to call it.
he's taken his risks as much or more than most coaches. you start playing risky ball, you will lose, then you will be upset for him taking so many risk.

you cannot describe crowton's offense because it has no identity
it's a mix-mash of a bunch of shite, and most of these offenses crowton isn't really knowledgeable of

If you think Miles developed that defense, you have mental problems.
Right. I can't believe people are actually saying this.
miles hired chavis, he recruited the players that are playing defense. who the hell gets the credit?
who's the best players on defense? peterson, sheppard, and nevis. check where chavis was when they were recruited.
some of you people are so blinded by hate, you can't acknowledge when someone actually did a good job at something.

Ill give him credit for the O-line, they are A LOT better than last year.
QB's have traditionally done better after Crowton left their program. Not saying JJ is Dennis Dixon or John Beck, but id bet willing to be he could eclipse 100 yards in another system that isnt a clusterfrick....

the rest of the team. I myself have been somewhat critical of Miles in recent times but I have to ask myself and others this: why are we so venomous and angry at a man who has been responsible for an unbelievably talented young defense, perhaps the nations best special teams, and an offense that with the exception of one position, could compete for a conference title?
Because Miles' $4 million dollar title is head football coach.
Not defensive fixer upper.
Not special teams coach.
He's responsible for the whole team.
And after last year's debacle, Miles had every opportunity in the world to fire Crowton and hire a seasoned, innovative coach that would have utilized LSU's embarrassment of skill position talent.
Literally hundreds if not thousands of people on this board saw this coming last year and many DEMANDED this. Many, many people saw this coming. Except Miles.

This has been the BIGGEST problem with the offense under Crowton and with JJ.
That's why I believe with J Lee, the offense would have somewhat of an identity...maybe more power running with TEs...some play action...some pistol..
..BUT PLEASE NO QB OPTION. I still dont get Crowton's infatuation with running a QB who is clearly not comfortable.... simply because of the color of his skin. That can be the only reason.

They are still pretty bad at pass blocking. They dont move their feet well or hold their blocks very long. WVU was getting pressure rushing 3 quite often.
In fact...this may be part of the reason for Miles/Crowton sticking with JJ...his escapability.

He got Zach Lee here. Not his fault the kid took the money and ran.

are you kidding? a kid that throws 95mph is gonna get a good contract.
and no contigency plan........
Saban signed Flynn and Russell in the same damn year. Had it not been fot that, Miles would be a donkey without a national championship. but right now he is a donkey with one.
6 years into the job and he hasn't produced a QB. UnF'ing believable.

Hes had time to take a nap back there at times and couldnt find the open man. Im not saying he has loads of time on every single throw, but compared to last year he does.

sure i can. crowton run's a spread offense. Miles has put his stamp on the offense with some power I for short yardage/redzone opportunities.
there are a couple of reason's it's not working.
1)the o-line, while better this year, doesn't have that dominant run blocker that h. johnson, q johnson (fb), b. helms were.
2)matt flynn vs j.j. or lee.
If you had a quality qb, a quality full back, and a dominant run blocker, this offense would work well.
this is my issue with miles. He has a spread wr coach, spread/zone blocking coach in stud, spread o.c. in crowton. he doesn't have that full back, dominant run blocker, or quality qb.
run the one back spread. use shep, ridley, peterson, ect. in some wildcat. then, use whoever has the hot hand to throw the ball. will it work? don't know because the qb play is so poor.
