Threads about the head coach. His name is Les Miles. I'm not a fan of his OC, but I think otherwise, he's assembled a good staff that is doing a good job with the material we have. I think he has done a great job recruiting and we have a fine season ahead of us. You ready to break out of the herd of sheep and think for yourself or content to just stand in the crowd and bitch?
not to be rude, but
Please do not start with the crap that just because we have managed to win, we are playing well..
we are # 102 in total offense..out of 129, you call that good ?.
..we just have not played anyone who was that strong.. wait for Bama, Fl, Arky, maybe even Ole Miss.
yes, some areas are working, but some are not.
We should look at the ne4gatives, as well as the positives...ignoring those areas will not get them fixed.

...he is trying not to ruin JJ. He is keeping it simple with more power running. But this is leading to poor passing because the QB and receivers are not getting into a rhythm... Miles is running because he know it is his best option, but the passing game is suffering because of it.

He hired Chavis. He gets credit for the defense.
He gets credit for making a good hire (which is obviously crucial). He doesn't get credit for the defense.

Semantics. Everything in this program is ultimately Miles responsibility. He should get the credit and the blame.

Plain & Simple....you nailed it.

"He should be given credit for recruiting and running a class program. I don't know that he should be given credit for developing our defensive players."
He's the head coach- of course he should. Why does he get the blame for the offensive side then. Come on. Be objective.

Miles destroyed the defense. It's not like he took over a bad situation. I guess you can say he deserves credit for fixing his mistake.
Miles' incredible success led to his D Coord getting a MAJOR Div1 head coaching job.
How you morph that into Miles destroyed the defense is hysterical.

Raparooot, I don't know but that could be either the sign of genius or the sign of an absolute madman. Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em type deal.

quote:Well as some here have noted, CLM is a CEO type HC. As CEO, his job is to have a handle on every thread of the whole package. This would include the status of his assistant coaches. I recall clearly that even the dumbest of the dumb along the Rant "knew" all year long that Pellini was going somewhere at the end of the season. I must assume CLM also "knew" this. What he chose to do about replacing Bo with a really quality DC was either: nothing or ineffective. Perhaps he waited until the end of the season and bowl game to make inquiries of possible replacements? No CEO worth his salt would leave the chips to fall where they may until the last possible second the way it appeared to all of us here back then. He would have been behind the scenes checking and rechecking with possibles all season through, in order to sign the right person onto the job soon as all the games were done. But no... So in a sense CLM, by inaction or ineffective leadership, backed himself into a corner and we all came out with a Malveto.
Miles' incredible success led to his D Coord getting a MAJOR Div1 head coaching job.

Not at all... and I'm not a huge Chavis fan. But the facts speak volummes:
1- Miles incredible success led to major change on his D
2- Miles addressed it with the Malveto
3- Malveto was a disaster and Miles immediately addressed it with Chavis
4- Chavis year 1 was a significant upgrade.
5- Chavis year 2 is the abomination that causes desolation.
Those 5 steps are critical leadership testimonials. He was presented a problem, addressed it, it didn't work, he addressed it again with a great fix. Major kudos there.
(note: and I would add that the WAY he addressed his problem - instead of just outright firing the Malvetos, but allowing them to move into other jobs is a HUGE, UNDERAPPREICATED life skills and character quality that Miles has. He could have destroyed 2 families but cutting them off, yet he found a way to create a win-win for everybody)
(note2: well except maybe for schools the Malvetos went to, but they are not his responsibility)

I actually think Miles knows this. I mean it's fairly obvious. I think he's trying to come up with the best possible way to face these games- limit mistakes on offense, hang it on your d and special teams. It's not optimal but the best we can do. That philosophy has won championships before but perhaps not with this stale of a passing game. Great teams that win without passing- totally dominate on the run. You know it's coming and can't stop it. We're not that type of running team.

Here is our difference.. you say he addressed the problem....
I say he CREATED the problem...no Kudos at all..
he was to fix it or get fired.

Total speculation and Assuming.
Maybe Miles believed the Malveto was up to the task and wanted to promote from within. Turns out they weren't and he changed it.

Then you got your head up your arse.
Unless you consider winning an NC and CREATING a hot ticket head coaching candidate is CREATING the problem. I guess that means you don't want us winning another NC and CREATING more problems.

$3.5 million a year is rather steep for half a team, don't you think?

quote:Here's where he's failing. His great strengths in the first couple of seasons revolved around him trusting his talent and taking big risks. Instead of doing either, CLM seems like he's circling the wagons and trying to hang on until the clock runs out. Time will tell. If it isn't Dooley's Tennessee that takes LSU down, it will likely be UF, UA, ARK, and probably a resurgent Auburn.

The sheer futility of it all is that LSU has the talent on offense to change its own destiny; it is not that we have no QB, it is that we are not taking the risks to optimize what we've got.
