re: Miles responds to Michael Cauble's criticism of the offense, and fear of passing

Kiel - 1st rated pro style QB in the nation #27 Overall
How does Kiel fit into the equation? He was a LSU commitment for about 2 weeks. So his two week commitment completely hamstrung the LSU offense for years to come?
In that case, I know we recruited Tim Tebow, I think Miles should get credit for the poor offense from 2009 because that could have been Tebow playing for us.

Well, that's more than you have going for you because you have never been likable.

The overt problem with this explanation is that we weren't "ripping off runs going up and down the field" against teams with above average defenses, such as Alabama and Arkansas. Yet, even when that didn't work, we obstinately stuck with it.
...and in the end, whatever the explanation may be, it will never be accepted our good enough for this board. Period

Agreed. But at the same time, Mett never had a Heisman campaign, either. In the last 3 games of 2004, OU outscored opponents 107-6 and averaged 34 pass attempts.
And I think it's silly to bicker over a 2% difference in Run:Pass Ratio regardless of personnel. OU was a run-heavy team in 2004 as well.

Because he was our early enrollee which many top quarterback recruits are so they can contend for playing time. As such, when you have Kiel's spot as the early enrollee locked in (I think we had the limit that year including the number one Gunnah), you can't offer that spot to others. Consequently, it puts us behind on yer boy Dak Prescott.

Do you think that Jennings would be our current starter if Kiel had honored his commitment?

I must have missed the part where Tebow was "firmly" committed to LSU 2 weeks before NSD. If you need a history lesson, Kiel enrolled at ND before notifying the coaching staff he wouldn't be playing for us.

Gunner Kiel, the No. 1 ranked high school quarterback in the nation, did not show up at LSU Monday for a meeting of early football enrollees and is not expected to begin classes with the rest of the LSU student body Tuesday.

"From what I have been told, he is no longer coming to LSU," recruiting expert Michael Scarborough of Rivals.com/TigerBait.com said Monday night. "He wants to come to LSU, but his mother (Aleta Kiel) got very emotional Monday and did not want her son to leave. He plans to enroll in classes at Notre Dame on Tuesday."

but you can't sit there and tell me that Jennings or Harris wouldn't be better suited in those offenses as opposed to ours.
Both AJ and BH would be PERFECT for either of those systems. But before this happens....someone/anyone on the coaching staff has to recognize this and actually speak up about it.

Same crap Miles did on 1/12 - smash it up the middle in the 4th when we are getting crushed. Or have JJ basically hand off to an AL LB .......

I'm sorry, you don't get credit for near misses in recruiting. Kiel never made it to LSU's campus. I guess I can excuse LSU's 2013 defense for not being very good since we finished 2nd in the Landon Collins recruitment. We "almost" got him.

How the hell is this thread still going? Some people just live to attack people who's jock they are not qualified to hold.
it really reflects poorly on our collective psyche.

You should excuse the 2013 defense for not being very good because we lost 6 players to the NFL draft in the top 3 rounds.
You should be able to give credence to the idea that missing a recruit is not the same as a recruit misleading the coaches. Kiel is more like Janzen Jackson than Tim Tebow.

Kevin Steele makes you feel like this?
Orgeron brought energy and excitement to the fans and team, but we still need a DC that is capable. We have one that isn't really.
Lets just hope he has learned something from his experiences and our program helps him succeed more than he has in the past.

Wow, we must have won the national title in 2012. At the very least the conference title. Finish in the top 10? Obviously we had good players on offense, those same great studs on the 2013 offense played in 2012.

As first year starters. With Greg Studrawa calling plays.

Hey now, I'm just looking at his past jobs. That is what we have to go on and he was fired for a disaster season after an average season and a slightly above average season.
All 3 years he had atrocious 3rd Down and Red Zone Defense.
I think he'll do better at LSU because we have good position coaches, better clock controlling offense, and better athletes.
I just can't help but imagine what a very accomplished DC, like Shoop, could do with these advantages.
I think we'll have a top 20 scoring defense FWIW. I just think the days of top 5/10 are over.
ETA:
Steele is, by all accounts, a great guy, a great recruiter and an asset to the program outside of being a DC. Maybe he'll surprise us. I hope he does

Hmm, let's look at the last two years of teams with "first year starters":
2014 Ohio St, Alabama
2013 Florida St, Auburn
