The only light of hope for Mett I can point to is that when Russell and Flynn were battling for the qb job in 2005, Miles said Russell was the clear starter when it was actually much closer. In 2006, Miles said the two were close when Russell was clearly outperforming Flynn. If he continues to say JJ is the starter, maybe it's actually very close.

He does have a job...and maybe at this one he won't be micromanaged?

I would like to see a rotation of two JJ and Mett. Sorry JL you are not 1st string material.

Over who?

We had nobody behind him that was better.

JJ may suck, but he was the best that we had last year. Don't buy into all the Rant memes.

I have an article coming out this week on the topic. In short: no. There hasn't even been a pretense of competition this spring. JJ got virtually all the first team reps. I didn't witness a practice or scrimmage of any kind where anyone else got reps with the starters other than JJ (Lee got a few drives, perhaps).

Mettenberger sure as hell looks good. But if there is a diss on him, it might just be they want to see him demonstrate more all-around leadership and ability. He's got the physical tools. I think the coaches are just looking for more consistency. And we all know nothing says "consistency" like JJ.

JJ is the starter. JL is a great backup and does great in the two minute drill.....but,

Mett has never played a down in the SEC. Do you really think he will start over the other two for what he does in the fall practice?

I don't. I don't think the coaches will wait til the week of the 1st game to declare a qb starter. They need to start grooming him in the spring and continue in the fall. That is what they are` doing for JJ.

I only hope the new Wiz can help JJ to be a better qb and teach him to hit receivers and not throw the ball in the dirt.

That kinda reads like you think anything that doesn't change the status quo can't be "a legit QB competition".

any chance at all that he loses it?

Sure...why not?

I thought Mett looked bout as good as we could expect all things being considered and who really knows what 5 more mons in the program will do for him.

Do I think he starts 1st game....no.

Might he...sure.

Good thing for LSU is that our QB slots seems stronger on the whole. imo

My concern is as in the past JJ will at least be decent in the Oregon game given his past track record of being able to play well in games he is given two weeks or more to prepare for (UNC,Bama and Texas A&M last season). However when we get to the meat of the season where he has to play every week he becomes the same old JJ.

Those type of performances will kill LSU's chances in big games!

Seriously don't even bother asking him questions. I hope he doesn't believe what he has posted in this thread. If he does, then he is a complete fricking moron that doesn't even deserve any further questionsing.

Honest question, When did Crowton say anything? Especially about who he wanted to start?

JJ will be your starter 100%. The reason is in my signature. Unless Mett can magically get 3 years of experience at LSU in 5 months...it's not going to change.

Everything I have ever heard suggests that Crowton wanted Lee taking no snaps last year. . .and had Lee forced upon him by Miles.

I have seen nothing that has led me to think otherwise, other than Rant logic.

That would have been a fantastic coaching move then.. thanks to Lee and JJ we had 11 wins

Mett will compete with Lee for snaps. I think we'll see either Mett/Lee (or both) get a scripted series per game.

I would be extremely happy with that fwiw.

It is what it is. I'm not the coach and my opinion has no bearing on the situation.
