I think it's telling that Alleva would make it clear that Miles asked permission (had to ask permission).

Where does it say he had to ask permission?

Do you ask permission for things you don't have to ask permission?

Quote...he's known for shitting the bed when it comes to managing the clock. probably thought it was 2 days from now and he had plenty of time to figure out how to go.

Probably gave instructions to "clock it" when he had one second to make it there...

but on a serious note I think it's telling that Alleva would make it clear that Miles asked permission (had to ask permission). There's something about the psychology of it all that I find interesting. Who's in charge, etc.

Since he missed a scheduled LSU event and Joe is the AD and therefore incharge of LSU coaches attending scheduled events, what could you find so telling?

just good business. My clients aren't in charge of my schedule, but if I need to make a change that affects them, I always ask if it's ok that I make the change.

Its a fundraising event. The AD is running the show here.

If you are the VP of your Division and something comes up in your office and you need to miss the board meeting where you are giving a report to the investors, do you just not show up? Or make sure its okay with the CEO first?

Not a good example. All the clowns posting Miles jokes have no idea of any organization higher than a prep line.

As simple as a recruiting visit, or as complex as a meeting with the NCAA over the Hicks/McCarthy fiasco.

Agreed. 100%. However, if the CEO makes it clear that I asked and received permission, then he's taking a dominant posture. And that dominant posture could affect the way I'm viewed by the board. Or in this case, the Tiger Athletic Foundation, which is an important to my employment and compensation.

Example: out of respect for my wife I ask if it's ok if I go have a brew with my buddies. But she would never tell them that I asked permission.

What would Nick Saban or Urban Meyer do if their respective AD's had a similar quote?

Nothing funnier than a guy on a message board who doesn't get it while the rest of the world laughs.

Speaking of guys who don't get it-- meet Tiger_n_ATL.

He thinks fans posting on sports boards will fire up a coach.
