Agreed, he needs to be a better receiver

watch it again and you'll see him back peddling, an indication that he didn't come out the break

Kind of weird. I saw improvement last night.

I also have no problem with the heavy running, the only thing I have a problem with is the lack of play action after all of the running success. Most of the pass plays are straight drops, i think play action would serve LSU very well with the running threat.

he beat the cb and was wide open, mett has to make that throw regardless.

He actually didn't even have to float it

Dude had a patchwork line put together. Understandably nervous considering how he was running for his life in all of the other games this year. Once his confidence in the line improves - his performance will improve. This is a team sport and everyone has to do their job. Mett cannot do what needs to be done by himself - nor could he. He needs to become a field general and take control of the offense and gain their respect. It will happen...give it time. It's already starting to happen.

it's a timing route, he doesn't throw to the receiver, he's throwing to the spot the receiver is going to be. Landry back peddling tells you he didn't get out the break hard enough and as a result can't make the play.

until Mett plays better and more reliably, I have no problem with the vast majority of our plays being running plays.
It's a very good perspective. Seems like the coaches have that too, and it's part of the gameplan.

Last night was a great win, but it was about 10 points closer than it needed to be. If Mettenberger doesn't throw the pick run back to the 1, Carolina is shut out in the first half (like Fla the week before). We were almost in field goal range at the time, so figuring we inch close enough to get that FG (or make the missed one), the score is more along 26-14, and more in line with the stats etc. Maybe worse, if we can keep beating them down with the running game.

Our offense is a lot better than last week at Fla, but isn't there yet. Most falls on the passing game gaining enough respect to open the run up. Still, losing at Fla and beating SC at home isn't bad at all; and we should see a lot easier defense next week at A&M after those 2 teams.

We're in good shape, right where we need to be

He stopped and jumped instead of running through the route.

Mett is doing fine for a first yr sec qb

This, some of you expect way to damn much. Juco doesn't prepare you for the SEC, Cam was the exception.

yeah, something is definitely wrong in the timing between Landry and Mett. Has been all year. Maybe Landry isn't running the routes in the game like he does in practice... too much adrenaline perhaps?

He appears not to be able to read SEC caliber defenses. I will have to wait until the end of the year to question his football smarts. Its crazy to think he's the best qb we have on the team. He plays like a qb that was given the job. I hope that he stays healthy cuz if he is the best we have they year will end in total disaster.

The OP's point/concern is a valid one. There were two plays as noted that Mett should've made better throws on. I loved the fade to the TE call but Mett's throw wasn't that close. Not blaming Mett altogether.

IMO, we should've been trying these from game 1, i.e., really advancing our passing game.
