I think the fact that we went 0-4 to start will play in our favor if we win 5 out the last 6 and end up 20-9. It's all about momemtum with the selection committee. No way they leave us home if we win 10 out our last 12 conference games even if the conference pretty pathetic. That would mean we would also get a pretty good seed and avoid florida for a while. South how many teams make the SEC tourney?? Do the top teams get a bye??

Top 4 get 2 rd bye

Top 10 get 1 rd bye

Would love to avoid that Florida matchup for as long as possible.

Yea. If we really start kicking arse a 3 seed would be perfect. I am not sure we can get there, but we are only 2 games out and top teams are losing steam. OM has lost 4 of last 6, Mizzou has lost 3 of last 6, and Kentucky has lost their last 2... We play Arkansas at home so we have a pretty good shot there...

It is within reach for sure.

Lost by two or three to Alabama and Kentucky in their arenas. If we played them now in a neutral site I like our chances. As long as we are not in the same block as Florida.

I updated the bracket with the current standings...

I am still trying to get clarity on what the tie breakers are. I emailed Kent Lowe last week, but he is taking his time getting back to me.

Does LSU ever get the "good breaks" when it comes to scheduling in the SEC?

By having the two worst teams in the SEC making up 2/3 of those games?

Looks like we may be doomed to the 4th or 5th seed at best.

I like the enthusiasm, but 20 wins doesn't carry as much weight as maybe it used to. Who those 20 wins were against is much, much, more important. LSU's OOC schedule was poor to say the least with Marquette really being the only "good" team (who LSU lost to). The SEC top to bottom is as bad as it's been in about 4 years. For reference, think back to 08-09. The SEC only got 3 teams in (and it would have been just 2 if Miss. St. hadn't won the SECT). This year there are no "locks" outside of UF. IMO at minimum LSU would have to have a winning record in conf, finish in the top-4 of the league, and probably win at least 2 games in the SECT to get consideration as an At-large. End of the year momentum doesn't mean that much anymore. The committee has said several times that they place just as much value on the games in Nov and Dec, as they do on those in Feb and March. Right now, LSU only has one "good" win (Mizzou, and even that is arguable) vs. two "bad" losses (USC and Auburn).

We are really close to being a 17-6 or better team right now.

The future is very bright. It's too bad we didn't pull the trigger for CJJ when we hired Trent Johnson.

I really wish LSU would have played their allotted 13 OOC games rather than just 11. I don't care if they were garbage games, but it would have been nice to have the two extra wins.

I would have liked to have the two extra home games too...

It was a solid win but I'm still nervous for Tennessee and arky both are capable of beating us hope we go 12-24 from the 3 point line again. I think JOBs surge has been from practicing against john odo. Anyone else think this.

I wondered why other SEC teams had 2-3 more games than us right now.

17-8 sounds much better and would probably have us on the bubble if we managed to finish 10-8 in SEC play.

For me its been a few things:

1. John Odo - sure he has had to get stronger to play a player like this.

2. Injury - He is healthy. He came back too soon and really struggled.

3. Passing - To me this is the biggest factor. His passing has improved so much that people are scared to double team him. He has been passing much better the last 9 games (2.7ast/gm) and it has opened up the offense for him and the team.

4. Coaching - Jones and staff have really got it in his head he is better attacking the rim rather than fading away. He has performed better at the free throw line and has made a lot of buckets going at the rim rather than away from it.

We have chances to pick up the good wins we need. These 6 games we have coming up actually look winnable and its the strengh of our schedule. God i wish we wouldn't have blew those games to usc and auburn!! Hell it's just fun being in the position were we can even talk about the tourney this late in the season. Even if our chances slim to none.

I think the best way to look at the remainder of the season is positioning for the SEC tournament. Act like that is the big one for now. Then from there we can hopefully play our best ball in Nashville and get the auto bid.

I don't think LSU gets in without a perfect finish unless we get the auto bid. But for now, get excited that the team is playing their best ball of the season and that they are looking to make a move in the SEC.

SoS, how do you see us going down the stretch? 2-4? I see us struggling to split with Tenner, Ole Miss, Mizzou all on the schedule.

ETA - Meant 2-4, typed 2-6. Derp.

I think all are winnable games. Realistically, I would like to see wins against Alabama, Arkansas, and @aTm. Tennessee will be tough, probably the toughest of them all to be honest. Missouri is struggling lately, and I don't know how the players will react to their current losing streak. Ole Miss is probably the most winnable of those tough games. I think beating Ole Miss is pretty possible. I think they are starting to get figured out. Im hoping a huge home crowd puts us over the top in that one.

I wouldn't be shocked if we went 2-4 to end the year. That would still have us at 8-10 and right about where posi-tigers had us preseason.

I think 3-3 is very possible.

4-2 would be great.

5-1 would get us perfect placement in the SEC Tournament and have a chance at winning the SEC tourny.

If I had to base it on who I think has the better shot at winning each game it would have LSU ahead in only 2 of the remaining games. I think LSU can pull off at least 1 game where they aren't the "most likely to win"... I think OM and @aTm are those two that are most reasonable.

Looking forward to our game Saturday. It's a must win if Alabama wants to even think about making the tournament.
