I will be wearing my McNeese shirt with my LSU hat. My 4 year old son is coming to the game and he is wearing his LSU wind pants with his McNeese jersey. If you go or went to McNeese there is no reason you can't suppor both schools. They do no compete for the same thing. Unlike our friends 70 miles to the east of lake charles, we do not have penis envy and are completely content with where and who we are. Those who say McNeese games are boring have obviously never been to a game. Is it near as crowded as a Saturday at Tiger Stadium? No. but it is one of the tops in Division 1-AA. I have plenty of friends that attend or attended LSU that come to the McNeese home games when LSU is away or on a Bye week. Hope everyone enjoys the game and the festivities.

My thoughts and wardrobe exactly.

Question about McNeese overall. What academic programs are they known for? If you could go to McNeese or LSU out of high school, what would prompt someone to choose the former over the latter. I'm assuming McNeese is more prone to give money, but I honestly don't know.

I am from Louisiana and never even thought twice about McNeese as an option. Just don't know anything about it. I don't mean this as a criticism at all either, just curious about who attends McNeese and why.

Engineering is a big draw. Having so many plants in Sulphur is useful for internships throughout the year and whatnot. They tend to hire heavily from McNeese (assuming their hiring freeze has been lifted). Education is another quality program. Texas schools often hire from McNeese, and it is a decent school system for students to get observation and student teaching hours. The creative writing program has a couple professors who have won numerous awards so I hear that program is pretty solid. Tons of kids come for nursing too.

I got into both, but McNeese paid for everything (tuition, food, housing, books), so I decided to save my money for grad school.

To add to XQ11's post.

The pre-dental and pre-medical curriculums are very good. They always have a high rate of acceptance to dental and medical schools even way back to when I was there a million years ago.

Nursing school is good. My youngest son just graduated in nursing almost two years ago and is working in ICU in a local hospital.

Yeah I forgot to mention that. The year I graduated, every student in the pre-med society who graduated (12 students) got accepted to med school.

Not a direct answer to the question about academic programs but there was a news report last year indicating that McNeese graduates had the highest average income among graduates of public universities in Louisiana. Maybe one of the other McNeese guys can link it. Tulane grads were #1 in average (or maybe median) income while McNeese graduates were number 2.

So, on average, people who have graduated from McNeese have done OK.

On the game thing: I grew up in Lake Charles and my Dad would take me to McNeese games. My high school counselor recommended that I go to LSU so I went for one semester. Back then a student could get into LSU games with just their ID card but I never went to one. I drove back to Lake Charles and went to McNeese games instead.

Me, I can't understand why somebody would say that going through three close "win or die" playoff games like McNeese did in 1997 or 2002 including a last second field goal to get into the 1997 championship game via an actual playoff tournament isn't exciting. But different strokes for different folks.

I have one word for someone who goes to McNeese or Southeastern or anywhere else and feels like they have to wear some other school's jersey to class:

"Wannabe."

Me, I went to school where I wanted to go to school. No place else I wanted to be. If you're going to one school when you really want to be somewhere else that's kind of pathetic.
