I'm not reading the whole thread, and don't know his exact reasoning, but why the frick would you have this event right now? Have it during the awards season like everybody else, kid has an incredibly important month ahead of them and doesn't have time for this shite.

I don't blame Burrow for being tired of stuff like this

As has been said many times, he's a different type of dude. In this case, it's not a good type of different, just self-important, arrogant and inconsiderate. On the other hand, it's his life and his time and he can conduct himself anyway he wishes even if it doesn't please others or comport with what others consider to be appropriate.

Three weeks ago, in a conversation with his parents, a Maxwell spokesperson said that Burrow would attend.

I think this is where it's confusing. This is a poorly worded sentence. I am not sure if they are trying to say "his parents said he would attend" or if they are saying they spoke to his parents and then the Maxwell people assumed he was coming after they spoke to his parents.

But the way this sentence is worded makes it sound like the Maxwell people mandated to Joe's parents that he attend the banquet.

Regardless, after winning the *takes a deep breath*:

Heisman Trophy
AP National Player of the Year
Maxwell Award
Walter Camp
Davey O'Brien
Johnny Unitas Golden Arm
Manning Award
Unanimous First Team All-American
SEC Offensive Player of the Year
All-SEC First Team

...the Maxwell banquet 2 months after the national championship seems...like a giant fricking waste of time. The award truly is 2nd rate anyway. Can you name the last 5 Maxwell winners without looking? That's what I thought.

I think its a generational thing.

If I invite someone to something, even a good friend, if they dont respond it doesnt bother me. It tells me they dont want to hang out. I don't get butthurt about it.

I know the scale of this is different, but I see it as a non issue. If he wants to go, cool. If he doesnt, cool. How he responds means nothing to me.

As far as im concerned, I acquired this mentality while job hunting and realizing that companies dont give enough of a frick about you to call you back and tell you no when you apply for a job.

Sounds like a lot of y'all are butt hurt about nothing.

Yeah, pretty chickenshit thing to go on some crying media-blast over.

Because he doesn't want to go to yet another silly award business venture? LOL

I wouldn't call him arrogant or inconsiderate if he doesn't return my call... literally your post oozes of self-importance for the things you care about. If he told them he would go, they got him a plane ticket and a hotel and limo, and he didn't show up... than I would think imo that would be not cool. Assuming someone is going to your silly event and throwing a tantrum (which is what that article is) when the assumption is proven wrong to me is not only arrogant but just silly.

Yet the winner has shown up for 80 something years until this year. Guess none of those guys were busy. And the other college award recipient (Chase Young) will be there and he’s projected to go #2 in the draft.

Why don’t you have the thing a little earlier than 2 months after the season is over?

Maybe, but I’m not sure the banquet is. They give out several awards, among them the Chuck Bednarik Award for College Defensive Player of the Year given this year to his friend Chase Young and the George Munger Award for College Coach of the Year awarded to......Ed Orgeron.

They also give out a Pro Player of Year Award given to Lamar Jackson this year, a Pro Coach of the Year (unannounced so far, apparently) and several high school awards. Several people seem to hold the club and the ceremony in pretty high esteem. If, in fact, Joe would be the 1st Maxwell winner since it was 1st awarded in 1937 to not show up, I do think that’s a bad look. Especially with Ohio being so close to Pennsylvania. I can’t imagine he doesn’t have a good reason not to go, and I think he would owe it to them to at least communicate that.

Maybe they decided to give Joe’s trophy to Chase Young.

In other words.....dammit, we sold an arse of tickets and sponsorships based on the fact that Joe Burrow won our award and now we have to tell all those folks that Big Dick isn't coming.

My guess is 99%+ of Americans have no idea this even exists, literally its not even news on a slow day in small country town. I mean you have people in this thread that are still trying to figure out what a non-response is and what it means.

Rational left the building a long time ago in this thread, basically a corporation is upset that someone isn't giving them free services. I'm not really sure what the uproar is even about - well other than the butt hurt.

I understand that sentiment completely. But this isn't Jimmy Kimmel asking him to make an appearance on his show.

Regardless of the optics of it, does anyone find this surprising? Dude is likely dialed in for his pro day and anything not a contractual obligation is not a priority. It wouldn't have surprised me if he blew off a lot of the media stuff leading up to the Playoff if he had the choice.

From Twitter:

Asked Chase Young which Buckeye our Bednarik Award committee need to focus on this fall... mentioned a few teammates, but RAVED about Shaun Wade.

I’m guessing Joe blowing them off won’t be of help to future LSU players in contention.

May be an unpopular opinion but...

#1 - Joe or his reps should be responding and not leaving these people in the dark. No real excuse for that and I’m surprised by it to be honest.

#2 - Unless he had a really good reason, I think he should be there. If his reason is just “I’m tired of going to awards banquets” I think it’s something he might look back on 5, 10 years from now and regret having not attended.

Agreed. All of this comes with the territory.

I'm guessing it won't matter.
